The conference has become more top-heavy. Florida and Alabama both going undefeated means that the rest of the conference has to swallow more losses.
Look at the Big 12 North div., it is really lame. All of the best teams are in the South div. Which make thier championship game lame. Texas has a cupcake schedule, and then breezes through conf. title game. I'd say Big 12 is down much farther than SEC. By a good margin.

I think Texas would destroy La. Tech. but there is no way to find out. Otherwise I agree.
I know what you mean and I agree, but using transitive logic doesn't tell us much. Now if LSU and Texas could play there's your answer. I hope Bama can play them (Texas) cause I guess that would mean good things...

You know, it seems like Georgia is the center of most of these arguments. Most other teams you look at that aren't doing as well have good reasons for it - new coaches, player turnover, injuries... Heck, UGA lost big production on offense, so there you go. Of course, it doesn't explain why their defense has been so porous.

Either way, I don't buy it. The SEC is as tough as ever. What we are seeing is cannibalism via parity. Take the non-SEC teams in the BCS top-ten and drop them in the East or West Divisions...wouldn't be pretty, IMO.

the ACC? that is their pick for the best? the same conference that had teams that lost to William & Mary and Richmond and barely beat James Madison and Jax State?

By SEC standards, the SEC is a little down this year.

Measured against the rest of the college football world, the SEC is still the toughest conference in the country.

I think the SEC is stronger than last year, easily. LSU is better, MSU is better, Auburn is better, Ole Miss is probably at least as good just not as good a record. Kentucky is bowl eligible again. Florida may not be as flashy on offense but better on defense. I think South Carolina could make some noise in any other conference. Only Georgia is markedly worse than last year.
We will see around bowl time.

Not so sure about UGA, saw them in action against OSU, they weren't real pretty
That's where the "if they played to their potential" kicks in. UGA hasn't looked pretty all season, they have very good athletes, but they're not producing. Let Kentucky and Georgia switch rosters, Rich Brooks would field a team that would compete with Florida for the SECEC, Mark Richt would coach Georgia into oblivion.
