I like it, as long as the cities makes sense. Atlanta, Nashville, Birmingham, New Orleans. If they were willing to take the SEC tournament to St. Louis, I would imagine media days could wind up there at some point. What say you?

Yes, I agree. I usually don't like when something is always in the same city. I wish the SECCG and the SEC baseball tournament would move around.

Bowl games are a different story, they can stay in one place.

The location of Media days is totally irrelevant to me. They could have it in Seattle for all I care - I'd still get the same highlights on the news. ;)

BUT - I've said for years that the SEC was leaving a LOT of money "on the table" by not bidding out the SECC Game to a different city, if not EVERY year, then at least every Other year - rotate two years at a time.

Now, MAYBE Atlanta would always be the high bidder, but the stakes would be higher than the current system of simply selecting ATL (basically) automatically for 10 year extensions.

I mean, the big "Beef" with Birmingham was that it supposedly gave UA a big advantage, right? SO how is it NOT just as big an advantage for the two GA teams (aub and UGa) to have the game in ATL every year????

Whoever bids the most should get the CG and Media Days, or if the $$$ is close then rotate. Now I am assuming that Starkville or Lexington won't put in a bid.

I would not mind the rotation with Birmingham, Nashville, Atlanta, and New Orleans. St. Louis to me, is just not an SEC city. Being in New Orleans, I've also hoped they would eventually rotate the SEC Football Championship between Atlanta and New Orleans. With Georgia getting better now, why should they get that in their backyard all of the time. Krymsonman

It will not be in Atlanta next year. I like the idea of moving it around as many have said, including most of the cities involved. It would be good to go to every SEC state, including Missouri. At least give them a chance to see if they would support it. It might give the U of Missouri a bump. But Atlanta, Bham, Orlando or Jax, Nashville, N.O., Jackson, Lex, St. Louis, Houston, LR., Charleston or Greenville. Give Bham, Jackson, Tenn 2 trips since they represent the only multi-program states :)

Yes, it’s back in Birmingham next year. I think the year after that is still open, but I’m not sure

I don't care where media days takes place, but one of the reasons B'ham lost the SECCG is because of potential bad weather in open air stadiums.

I think the SECCG should always be in a dome. I'd be good with rotating between ATL and NOLA and Houston or Dallas!

I see what you did there....:cool2:....I feel the same way about media days now, but it does make me chuckle when I hear fans of other schools complain about it being in Birmingham. As for the SECCG, I am pretty happy and content with the Atlanta venue, but I might feel differently if I was in the habit of traveling to watch the game rather than watching at home. If they rotate it, it should stay within the SEC footprint in my opinion. I never have warmed to the idea of the SECN being headquartered in Charlotte, but I'm sure it is in the SEC's long-term plan to expand into North Carolina and probably Virginia. Maybe the SEC and ACC can make a trade, *u for Wake Forest.

Saw a tweet that said there are no talks about SEC expansion right now.

I haven't heard anything either, hence the qualifier "long-term". I would hazard to guess that the placement of the SECN headquarters had at least a little bit to do with establishing a beachhead in the region with an eye to the future. It could be a decade or multiple decades down the road, but expanding to include the states of North Carolina and Virginia is a huge money making bonanza assuming the health of college football remains strong.

Shoot - I'd take wake for the boogs, any day. It would raise the average SEC IQ by about 50 points.

Heck, I'd take Coastal Carolina for the boogs, if the Sun Belt was dumb enough to make the trade!!!! ;)

At least Virginia and North Carolina can claim to be part of the SouthEAST, with a straight face - but I digress.

LOL...having lived in Texas now for a while, I'd say Dallas/Austin/San Antonio/Houston are the crooked dividing line between an east Texas that is much more like the southeast (geographically and culturally speaking) and west Texas which reminds me much more of the southwest. Down the middle in the urban hubs you've got a little bit of everything.

I don't know if it's an accurate impression or not. But it did seem from a PR and media coverage and discussion standpoint on this forum that the hype around SEC Media Days seemed a little muted as compared to when it was always held in Bham.

I just haven't heard as much watercooler and lunch talk about it. I certainly haven't seen as many headlines about it.

I'm just wondering if anyone else had the same impression? It has always been the signal of the start of the season for me but I feel like I missed it somehow.

Absolutely, the local talking heads on radio commented it wasn’t the same , it got lost in the Julio, Braves, even Atlanta United talk here locally. I said in another thread, maybe the star power lost last year in the HC ranks contributed, but something was definitely missing. Hell the ACC media days got as much or more local coverage because of some of the controversial things said. I’m not against rotating, just not in Atlanta. Maybe another college town, where , like Hoover, media days are a really big deal.

Atlanta is a city with a lot more than college sports going on, and it has a huge transient population. Birmingham was the perfect place for this because it doesn't have any of those things. It is right between 2 huge college towns in a college football state.
