Just hoping Verizon FIOS gets on board with the SEC Network. Love the fast Internet speed, 150Mbps download and 65Mbps upload. The wife is a project manager who does integration testing for Uverse and sees lots of cool new features but, until they get their 300Mbps serivce in the Dallas area, no reason to change.

I'm getting really excited about SEC-TV. .

We're talking 1,000 exclusivelive events, 45 football games, 160 basketball games, 75 baseball games, 50softball games and 24/7 coverage of all SEC sports. (from SEC-Network letter I received)

Will be great watching other SEC sports not currently on TV. Think it is really important that all of us put the full court press on all Cable and Satellite providers by calling them and demanding SEC-TV or you will look elsewhere for someone who does.

We also need you to spread the word. The more people who join our recruiting class, the greater chance we have of getting your TV provider to carry the SEC Network. So tell your friends, tell your bus driver, tell your grandma, tell your grandma's bridge partner. Tell everyone you have ever encountered in your entire life to follow your lead and commit to the SEC Network. (also from SEC-Network letter I received)

I'm a facility technician for AT&T. Right now AT&T is offering speeds up to 100 Mbps on bonded pair copper using a Motorola NVG 589 Residential Gateway. To get this service your residence has to be within 2000 ft of the fiber optic box. As with all Internet providers the data signal deteriorates the farther you're residence is from the originating source. Right now in laboratory settings AT&T is providing 500 Mbps speeds over copper. Recently there's been new technology released in our crawl phases that will soon be available to the public. Right now uverse is only available to customers living within 5000 ft of the fiber terminations. However in the near future new methods and equipment will extend the distances up to 11000 ft with speeds up to 500 Mbps. You'll also see more fiber to the premise services being turned up with speeds up to a Gbps for residential and a terabyte for businesses.
U-verse offers two different transport paths to deliver Internet to our customers. One is ADSL/PTM which is basically a ramped up version of DSL offering speeds from 768k to 18 Mbps depending on your distance from the Central office or remote terminal where the signal originates. This type of U-verse signal doesn't produce video.
The second type of U-verse signal is VDSL offering speeds from 13 Mbps up to 100 Mbps on copper and up to a terabyte on fiber. This signal produces video.
AT&T isn't stuck in the mud when it comes to progress. Pretty soon when the new technologies are released cable companies will have to step it up to compete with the amount of bandwidth being offered.

Thanks mulletover, interesting information. Like Earle, I live in an older neighborhood where we're on copper rather than fiber and U-verse has not been available. Not sure how far it might be to the nearest fiber termination though. Like U-verse, DSL has not been an option either. I do have good sightlines for dish though should that change be necessary, so just waiting until things fall out so far as who will or will not carry the SEC network and will make a move then if necessary.

Does anyone know if football games telecast on only the SEC network will be made available to those in areas without the SEC network on ESPN game plan.

The install tech said we were about 600 ft. from the terminal. It's an ATT big x and a couple of smaller ones, across the road from our Condo complex. We had to wait over 3 months after sign up yo get it, but woth it due to im proved TV sinal and internet , plu ATT is carrying the SEC network when it airs. I have 18 Mpbs. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3334328636

I'm at work and was curious about the internet speed(I work at UAB hospital), so I checked it out on several different websites and got a huge difference in results. Anywhere from download speeds of 10 mbps to 60 mbps. Is there an internet speed check website that is considered the most reliable?

speedtest.net is powered by OOKLA and very widely used and accepted. Actually, the Comcast speedtest is also powered by OOKLA, so you should be pretty accurate with that one.

Thanks, that is one of the websites that I used. I'll check my speed at home tonight. I have recently swapped to uverse with supposed 18 mbps download speed....we shall see what it really is.

That's a bit of a puzzle, because each time I've inquired they've said "no." Monte Sano is only about a mile and half long, so the fiber termination box must be at or close to the south end. (I live on the extreme north end.)

Just got an email from Dish today saying they are the first nation wide carrier that is offering SEC Network starting August 28. Terms have not yet been determined. I'm wondering now what to expect cost wise and if it's going to be worth it?

Well, we've gotten down to one PPV per year, ranging from $30-$45, depending on carrier. I'd have to examine the cost carefully, if Comcast carries it...

I called DTV and complained. Our contract ends in the summer; maybe time for a new carrier.

ATT-U-Verse has it at no extra cost, all the carriers with packages and such, it's a mess, they ought too have a la cart! I think Com cast and TWC will come on board. When I first got U-verse CBS-Sports was in a pkg, now it's free...go figure.

Any of you know the story of the River Landing development in (now annexed by Huntsville) Madison, AL ? I think ground was broken about 5 years ago and ATT was going to wire the whole area. There are still ATT concrete and metal constructions all over. For some reason, it was never completed. I have heard Comcast won a lawsuit claiming "unlawful monopolistic practices" or the equivalent. Quaint, huh? Anyhoo, we have this unused infrastructure and still no Uverse. Anyone know when this might change?
