Yeah, I thought about that when I posted it. I was waiting for someone to say something, I had the link ready ;)

He was on an SI cover about a decade ago with the headline "No the other Ricky." There was a lot of confusion back then, especially when Tech play UT.
I think I remember that now. What are the odds of two RB's with the same name playing in the same state at two different schools that are in the same conference?

Yes he came from Texas Tech. I think Sonny Dykes (?) was the coach and when he left he transferred to Bama. I think I could be wrong on the coaches name though.
You were close, I think you meant Spike Dykes who coached Tech up till 2000 when Leach took over. Sonny Dykes is the current coach at Louisiana Tech in Ruston and did serve on Mike Leach's staff. And yes they are related, Spike is the Dad.

Thanks, I knew the name Dykes sounded familiar in this case. If I'm not mistaken Shaud seen the writing on the wall with Leach's offense and left. I think fRAN recruited him while at TCU.

We met Shaud when he was redshirted i guess. He was kinda standing off to the side. My brother pointed him out to saying " I think thats Shaud Williams". I didn't know who he was at the time. So, we walking over and he signed our football or hat or whatever it was we had. He was a nice. If I recall correctly, he was wearing a cowboy at. That may have been how my brother recognized him.

This is correct. Shaud was recruited to TTU by former coach Spike Dykes in 1998. Dykes was an old-school coach with a traditional run-first offense. If I'm not mistaken, Shaud redshirted in 1998 and garnered significant playing time in 1999. However, Dykes retired following the '99 season and Tech hired Mike Leach to replace him. In 2000, Leach's first season, I think Shaud realized that the running game was going to be an afterthought and he transferred to UA because Coach Fran had recruited him while at TCU. Sat out the requesite season in 2001 and finished his eligibility in 2002 & 2003.
