Does anyone do any shooting sports (handguns primarily)? I ask, because I just purchased a new pistol and wanted to get more involved in target range shooting and possibly train for a future competition.

I like to shoot but I've never attempted to shoot in a competition. I would guess that I'm an average shot.

Looks like you're somewhat near Huntsville, correct?

Is this place still open? (indoor pistol range): Ammo Dump Indoor Firing Range, Huntsville, AL : Reviews and maps - Yahoo! Local

We have a pretty good indoor range near my house. I've gone several times. It's a good way to try out various models and calibers. They even have an Uzi that you can rent/fire....but I don't think I want to pay for all of those bullets. :)

The year after I got out of college, I worked for a company that did security for the nuke plant in Port Gibson, MS. I qualified as "expert" back then with the service revolver (.357 S&W Model 66).

Among the things my husband had when he passed away, was a bryco .380 auto, and His old aunts' 038 5 shot ,with pearl handles,S&W I believe. It's at least 60 or 70 years old. I keep the .380 on the nightstand at night. I would like something lighter,it's heavy, but it's down the list for purchase/replce. I can also load it with .32, or .22. any suggestions?

What type of shooting competition are you interested in? Pure target? IDPA? what?

Target vs 'real world' type (IDPA, though some challenge the realism of these competitions) are two different types of pistols, more often than not. target pistols are generally very expensive, hand-built and customized to the shooter, 'real world' type of competitions are littered with Glocks, 1911's and such.

Based on the link; that appears to be Larry's Pistol and Pawn. They do have an indoor firing range for handguns; will probably pay them a visit.

The only one that I have done any research on is the Glock supported circuit; as you can guess, it is for Glocks only.
I just purchased a Glock 35G .40Cal. I am looking around for other events as well; all would have to have an amatuer/novice class starting out.

I love 1911A's and at one time in the military I could field strip and reassemble a 1911 in 26 seconds blindfolded.

I like to target shoot with 22 cal and have a Colt Woodsman 6" barrel. Colt Ace and Colt Match Target 4 1/2" barrel. I also have an old Ruger Bearcat revolver I occasionally shoot. I own 4 other larger cal. pistols.

I used to like bird hunting and own a few nice shotguns but loath duck hunting never could see the glamor of waking up at 3AM, ride half an hour in the dark in a leaky boat then sit in a cold duck blind with a wet dog to shoot one or two ducks. I shot clays in a club for a few years before getting bored with it and not being as good as some members who were really good.

I own one high power rifle a Sako Finbear 270 with scope.

ruger p95 home defense 100% registered and completely legal :)
cz-52 hand cannon
mosin nagant 91/30 elephant gun
I just have the one pistol listed above; as for shotguns and rifles, that is a long list that includes 3 12 ga, 1 20 ga, 1 4.10, a .270, and about 5 .22 that have been handed down thru the family plus the ones I purchased for myself.

I like the looks of the P95!

the p95 is so much easier to shoot then the cz. i really like it. i am looking to get a .22 plinking rifle. i think that will be it unless i get a wild hankering for a shotgun but i truly doubt i will.
