Shouldn't Washington and Fanney have an impact on D this year?

I was reading a post on here back on February 28 regarding recruiting there was a section regarding Washington and Fanney the two recruits from 2004 that went to Hargrave Military Academy.

They are (from the post) much faster and stronger and obviously a year older. Shouldn't we be seeing an impact from these two guys as well?

Fanney especially if what we have heard is true. He will get some playing time. Washington, I'm not that sure of. Washington was only 17 when he went to Hargrave.

it will be interesting to see what weight Washington reports at and is able to get back to. He was in the 240s at Hargrave and was able to put up an incredible shuttle time at their camp. If he shows up at 270, which I think he's been at before, he might make the move inside, if not this year, but next.

Fanney played DE as well, but at a heavier weight. If he can play with the explosiveness that was reported he had at Hargrave at around 285-295, he might be that explosive, pash rush DT that we're in need of.

That being said, they need to get in here mid-summer and get in under our S&C. Otherwise, it might be mid-year or next year before they make big impacts. Hopefully, they'll live up to what we've heard from their coaches quickly.

Coach Shula said he thinks the defense can step it up another notch this year with 9 guys returning as starters. He said Bama has some experience now. He said they need to look for some young guys to get them in there, especially up front with some young guys that are going to come in and play possibly as true freshman. Bama doesn't have a lot of depth but they think some of these guys can come in and give some quality snaps.

I would think that Bama would get at least a couple of DL signees to contribute between Fanney, Washington, Deaderick, Forbes, Walton, and Greenwood.

My thought...

Is that these two guys will probably be the biggest impact players (along with at least one RB) that will be coming in this fall.

Both will see action on the field this year. How much depends on what they do when they are out there. They are both pretty raw and will need to learn how to use technique instead of size to get off blocks of SEC Offensive Linemen that will easily outweigh them this year. I really don't see them starting at any point this season but anything is possible.
