I have not been able to get down to practice yet and I have not heard any mention of Simeon in the paper. Does anyone know how he looks and what his playing prospects are next year? He started off last year with a bang, but ended with a fizzle. Will he change his number to 2 (high school)or are they holding that one for Mr. Stover?
Also, be on the look out for two Briarwood Christian players this year. Andy Davis is a great safety and JD Lott (6'3, 220, 4.5/40) is an awesome weak side end or middle linebacker. Both are D1 prospects and need to be kept in state.

Simeon

Simeon has been hampered by more nagging injuries from the start of spring practice. I've heard a few things on him, but with the overhaul on the o-line and the back-up QB controversey the defense seems to be overlooked unless it dominates the offense in practice, which it has done thus far. I expect big things out of Simeon and we will see big things.

BamaGrad, you are getting Tim and Simeon mixed up.

Kines mentioned during the camps that the success our defense enjoyed last season can be attributed to the play of our DB's.

There really hasn't been enough filter down to give you a player by player breakdown as to how they are progressing this spring. They are looking very good as a unit but when not as good during individual drills. Right now, there isn't one of them that can cover Prothro.

FWIW, they are still running the same type coverage they did last year...line up on the LOS and back off right before the snap...then run with the receiver.

It's been mentioned this may be the best safety combination we've had in a very long time.

'bout all I can think of at the moment.

No, I am pretty sure I read Simeon (not Tim) has been "hampered by nagging injuries" all spring.

Other players

Can someone remind me of all the players that have left the team this spring. I know Johnston - TE; Will Roach - WR; and Ewing - lineman have all left the team.

Travis West quit because of injuries. Damien Jones (RB/WR), Mike McLaughlin (PK), Spencer Pennington (QB) and Chris Turner (DT) also quit the team for a variety of reasons.

As for Simeon Castille, you'll have people talk about how he should be starting in front of Madison or Robinson until they turn blue in the face, but the most likely outcome will be that Castille ends up in a virtual three-man rotation with those two players at the RCB-LCB-nickel positions.

You're probably right. Hopefully, we will find a good 4th. Mitchell seems to have the coaches' attention right now.

Aaron McDaniel has also done nicely lately. Eric Gray has had a killer spring. It wouldn't surprise me for either or both of those guys to play before Mitchell, who needs a little weight room work, or last year's number four guy, Travis Robinson.

Perhaps I misunderstood this post. Notice, he mentions Simeon and then the OL and back-up QB controversy. Oh well...

Fact is, both of the Castille's are dealing with injuries.

I will be the first to say I am not a huge fan of Madison, but he needs to be on the field. I would like to SC on the field more as well. Things just seem to happen that guy is out there.

As a whole, our returning players in the secondary may be one of the best units we've seen in over a decade. They are all gifted athletes, with good instincts and very good coaching.

I really like the depth we've seen developing on the defensive side of the ball. We are likely to see our defense score as much as (or more than) the offense in some games. We'll be reading about some of these men in the NFL wrap-up section on Monday Mornings.

I just meant that Simeon had some minor injuries much like he had prior to last season's Arkansas game. Obviuosly not on the same scale as Tim. As for no mention of the defense and in paticular Simeon, I just equated to the fact that much of the spring has been focused on the offense in the sense of the media coverage on it. Coupled with the fact that Ramzee and Anthony are the top two corners right now. So Simeon has had a quite spring thus far with all the other matters.

The "controversey" I refer to is Marc Guillon possibly becoming the second string guy again after all the mess he has been through and possibly caused. And that John Parker Wilson had progressed very well, so since we have had trouble keeping the QB healthy the past 2 years I elude to the fact that the backup, with past history on his side, will see the field this year and both are fighting for the spot. I hope and pray Brodie doesn't get injured this season. But as I have already said he has been injured often the past 5 years.

Simeon looked fine this past Saturday and didn't seem

to be hampered one bit by an injury. He was playing the nickle back with the 1st "D" and starting corner with the 2nd team. I too look for him to be a virtual rotation with both Ant Dog and Ramzee. By the way...RAMZEE has changed numbers to #1 from #17. Don't be confused!

ROLL TIDE!

Thanks

Thanks for the report. CMS did mention him today in the paper. From what I have seen and heard on the news and with the addition of the incoming freshmen, this should be a great secondary.
