So what do we do with Brown?

If Memory serves Deonte Brown is now eligible to play this week. The line has improved notably in the last two weeks. Dickerson appears to be our best lineman. Evan Neal after a rough start appears to be improving. I don't recall Brown ever playing center but they could move Dickerson to Center and put Brown in his place. I'm not convinced they will make a change.

So what do you guys think?

My guess is that Brown will compete in practice this week and will win a starting position. Dude is key to toting the rock.

If he has repented for his sins and the coaches see that he has earned playing time, I expect we will see him play. Whether he starts or not depends on whether he has earned it.

All of your comments are duly noted and will be passed along to Coach Saban... :biggrin2:

Left guard. Neal needs some seasoning before he gets thrown too deeply into the fire. Brown can start, assuming he has served his penance, and Neal could follow him.

I don't think Neal is going anywhere. Too big and talented. RG would be Brown's landing spot and Dickerson would slide to center IMO. However, Saban in his presser today when asked about it said they are all going to compete and said something about if Brown is "in shape"..... When seeing him in warm-ups it looks like he has put back on some of that bad weight he had gotten rid of last year.

He is very big and very talented, and he has also whiffed on a lot of blocks these first four games. But we will see. Brown's conditioning is a big issue. If he isn't in shape it's a bit of a moot point.

I wonder what kind of shape he is in and how many reps he has gotten while being suspended.

If he is ready to play, I wonder if Saban will keep him out of the Ole Miss game and then he will start at Texas AM after he has more reps during the off week. I just don't see him playing this weekend unless he is more ready than what Saban is letting on.

I agree - Neal is a beast, but he does not seem to be quick enough at LG.

We seem to have an abundance of tackle types on the team, but not as many guards. Much like Leatherwood last year, Neal and Womack seem out of place at tackle. Womack was a very solid RT in the 2017 season, but his injury’s last year allowed Wills to pass him (which might have happened anyway) but he seems to lack the quickness and leverage at guard.

I was disappointed to hear that he looks out of shape and Saban alluded to it. I’d be very happy for him to come in and take over for road grading running game performances. In fact, after USCe, I was sort of counting on it. But the guy made lousy choices last year to miss the playoffs and hurt his team. If he is not in game shape now, I am not sure what to think about him.

I guess we will see. I am pulling for him.

Was he allowed to practice during his suspension? Work out?

Pulling for him too. His team needs him. Pushing back from that last couple of pieces of fried chicken is a matter of personal discipline and commitment. The suspension ,and if indeed he’s out of shape , might indicate that those things aren’t Deonte’s strong suit. I sincerely hope I’m wrong about that.
