Softball 2026-expectations?

After two and a half innings, Mizzou is up 2-0 over BAMA. Briski gave up a 2 run dinger in the bottom of the 2nd. BAMA has 2 hits so far, but they just don't look right at the plate. Not a lot of solid contact. Maybe we thought we would cruise thru this series. Right now Mizzou seems to want it more than BAMA.

BAMA woke up a bit. After a single and a walk, Ambrey Taylor went yard to give BAMA a 3-2 lead. When then had runners on first and second, two down, with Wells at the plate, but she popped out on the infield. I think Wells needs to relax at the plate. Looks like she might be pressing a bit, trying to hit a dinger every time up. At least we have the lead. Briski gets them 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 4th, so after 4 complete it's 3-2 BAMA.

Top of 5th. 1 down, Roman goes yard to RF, now 4-2 BAMA. Left a runner at 3rd. We hit a hard line drive for the third out, but it was right to the Mizzou first baseman. 4-2 BAMA after 4.5.

Bottom of 5th. Briski gets 2 outs on 2 pitches, then gives up a single and a walk. Last pitch should have been a strike out but this umpire is the worst of the weekend. When it comes to balls and strikes, this whole crew is just B-A-D. And it's both ways. Both teams should send reports to the SEC office. Hawkins makes a diving stop at SS, flips for the out at 2nd. 4-2 BAMA after 5 complete. We need to score more runs because you never know what might happen with these umpires.

Top of 6th - White got on with a single, steals second, called out, but changed to safe on review. Wells strikes out to end the inning. Going to bottom of 6th, still 4-2 BAMA.

Bottom of 6th - Briski starts off with a K, 1 down. Mizzou's Abby Karr owns Briski, hits her 3rd home run of the series against Briski, and second home run today. To be fair, if Vandagriff doesn't turn the wrong way on the contact, she can probably make a play and prevent the HR. The ball went off her glove. BAMA's lead is now 4-3. Briski gets a second K, 2 down. Briski gets a third K. 4-3 BAMA after 6. We could sure use some insurance runs.

Top of 7th - Abby Karr now pitching for Mizzou. She shut us down yesterday. Pupillo leads off - and strikes out on full count. 1 down. Roman grounds out to 1B, 2 down. Giles singles to LF. Taylor strikes out. Going to the bottom of the 7th. Hope Briski can shut them down.

Bottom of 7 - Briski gets a K, 1 down. Briski gets another K, 2 down. Fly out to LF. BAMA wins 4-3, and wins the series 2-1. I think Mizzou might be a little better than their record. They've now lost several 1 run games. It wasn't always pretty, but we did take the series. ROLL TIDE!

Winning series' is the goal so I'll take 2 out of 3 every week. Should continue to be ranked in the top 7-8 teams when polls come out. So impressed with Briski's development, the Freshman pitchers holding up, and the seeming revamped hitting approach.

We'll find out a lot about our team in this week's series against UTw.

It's an unusual Thursday / Friday / Saturday series. No Sunday game.

rolltide.com shows this evening's game at 6:00 on SECN+, Friday's game at 5:00 on SEC Network, and the Saturday game also at 5:00 on ESPN.

Well, BAMA went down 9-1 today at the hands of #1 Texas. I didn't get to see it, but it didn't seem like we could get anything going. Was it as bad as it looks?
Yeah, pretty much.

Texas got a couple of bloop singles that led to one run they didn't really deserve. And we had a couple of would-coulda-shouldas in the field. But even if those had gone our way, it still would have been 7-1 +/-.

Then a bunch of well-hit balls started falling for multiple bases, and UTw had at least two home runs, probably more.

So yeah, they pounded us.

Big issue was that hitting reared its ugly head again. We're better than last year's abysmal performance, but still not a truly good team at the plate.

Maybe they wanted to be home for Easter or thought attendance would be too low.
