They may not have expected 92,000-plus for the spring game, but school officials clearly can see a day when more than 100,000 people will be able to watch Alabama play Auburn in person.

Who said the Iron Bowl can't get any bigger?

It might because Moore and the Alabama decision-makers, after lagging so far behind a lot of their rivals in terms of facilities for so long, have been turning dirt and pouring cement with a vengeance...
...It's important to remember that the money men and women started passing the hat for the Crimson Tradition campaign with the barrel of the NCAA's gun staring them in the face.

Imagine what's possible now that they're not under the gun.

How much louder will it be when they close in the south end zone?
Louder than 92K! Do they register the noise level? :BigA: (If so, they must miss my voice-I'm hoarse after every game! Might have to replace the l.r. carpet soon-I also pace!);) :BigA:

Mal mentioned this wasn't anything concrete yet(no pun intended), but with the study being done by the architect and what we saw last Saturday I've got to think the PTB are getting pretty serious. Scab was probably right when he said you'd need hard hats in that area of the stadium within 5 years. And with the excitement of the Bama nation right now, I don't think they'll have problems raising the funds for it.

Boy, that doesn't just apply to raising money. The sky is the limit from here on and that's a darn good feeling.

It makes me wonder if our woes over the past ten years have done more to unite the fan base and push us forward. It's certainly not what the NCAA and the rivals thought would happen.

It may have very well been that the administration was getting complacent after Coach Bryant retired. Maybe a good swift kick in the rear end, even though much of it wasn't deserved, is what was needed to propel us into the 21st century.

As part of my sig says, sometimes you have to go backwards to go forward.

I know that it has been mentioned that the stadium can be expanded again without affecting the streets or the graveyard, but I would think that to do a proper expansion of the south endzone the Evergreen cemetery would need to be relocated, and then Bryant Drive (10th Street) moved further to the south to give more pedestrian walking space around the stadium. Milti-level parking on part of the old graveyard would also be very helpful.

I remember reading awhile back in another thread that when CNS toured the stadium that he looked to the South end zone and asked CMM how long it would take to make it look like the north end zone. I figure an SEC title will get the ball rolling big time.

They may actually be able to design it to where the street and cars can travel directly underneath the expansion. Sort of like an overpass. I don't think relocating the graveyard is an option. Ever see Poltergeist?

There are already plans for Bryant Drive, in the Tuscaloosa Streetscape project. As much on page as Mayor Maddox, President Witt, and Coach Moore are with one another, I would believe these ideas have been passed along to one another. Though, the Streetscape will end about at BDS, however, it will widen the lanes there to alleviate traffic. As for the cemetery, I'm not sure how much room the expansion would take.

There is a great deal of space between the south endzone and Bryant Drive. An expansion, without the grand entrance, will fit easily and nicely without affecting the street or cemetery.

I like the graveyard at the south end. I wish we could make the visiting team players walk through it to get to the stadium. Maybe it would put some thoughts of DEFEAT in their heads..... Maybe we could buy a few plots and build a visitors dressing room there.

Now there's a good idea... :)

I'd vote for that,

Relocating the cemetery (or atleast part of it) would still be better than building a stadium overpass that merges into the south endzone...

IMHO

P.S. How many plots for an Extra Large Orange HC?:biggrin2:
