I really dont think anyone will be leaving the SEC any time soon. Its a premiere conference and Vandys athletic bugget depends on its share of SEC money IM sure. But USM is a great program no doubt! :biga2:

I don't know if S. Miss could keep the attendance numbers high enough to be a viable SEC program.

Oh, true they beat Nebraska, but so did Texas Tech: 70-10.

The other two schools already in the SEC in the state would veto that. They already have to compete for athletes with Southern Miss. To give them SEC status would just elevate them in that competition. The chances of Southern Miss joining the SEC are slim and none. Same thing goes for the Univ. of Memphis who would love to join the party.

I doubt it. USM has a small stadium, one of the smallest in Div. 1. Could they compete as well as KY, Vandy? Yes, definitely. But, they wouldn't bring big revenues to the SEC.

In a word YES! Southern Miss is a great school and has

always had a terrific football program that has easily been able to keep up with its Mississippi counterparts.

As for your concern Ashley, I don't believe that would be a problem if they joined the SEC. The reason that their attendence hasn't been as big as many is simply because of who they play on a regular basis. However, if given the chance, we should highly consider Southern Miss as a viable addition to our conference. Of course, we'd have to lose somebody and my vote would be Vandy. While a terrific academic program, their football SUX! They blew a 27-3 lead this weekend to lose to Rutgers and THEY'VE DUMMED THEIR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AND OVERALL PROGRAM AND IN MY OPINION, IT IS EMBARRASSING TO THE REST OF THE SEC!

If you want to be competative in Athletics, it is important to dedicate people to that success. Vandy is doing just the opposite and it shows!

Why dump Vandy? Why not go after another program to put in the east? How about Clemson, Georgia Tech, or Louisville to add to the SEC East? Or we could try to be super competitive and go after FSU or Miami? All I'm saying is we are not bound to just 12 schools are we?

Not gonna happen. They play in a dinky little stadium and still can't sell it out. Plus, they don't travel well either. Just too apathetic.

I wouldn't mind dumping Vandy though, they're just leeching off the SEC.

USM in SEC...Don't See it Happening

Speaking from someone who lives in Hattiesburg and has followed USM most of my life, It is true that USM plays good games against us, other SEC schools and Big 10 Schools. However, they win maybe 25% of these games. It is true that they can't fill their stadium (33,000) now and come next month there is an election in Hattiesburg on a bond issue to finance an addition to the stadium that would increase to 45,000 (?) to make it more attractive to larger schools to play at USM. Anyway, Ole Miss, Miss. State and LSU would never vote to allow USM in the SEC. With this in mine, I say Roll Tide and let's stomp the Eagles this weekend!

On their own boards...

they gripe about not being able to fill their little stadium - even against big name teams. Having them in the SEC West would require us to play them home and home. Think about the financial sacrifice...

I'm a Southern Miss fan and I have to agree with most of the postings that Southern Miss should not be in the SEC. For beginners 3 teams from Mississippi in the SEC? Wouldn't do much for television ratings in the Southeast. Also our stadium is to small to bring in enough revenue to host the big games. As it is, we have to do a 2 to 1 home and home with teams like Nebraska (2 times there and once at home) It is very unfortunate that the only desent teams in Conference USA are leaving (Louisville, TCU and even South Florida) and he addition of smu, rice, tulsa - sad. Our only hope is to improve our Basketball program (Really Sucks) and hope to move one day to another conference (other than the SEC).

I'm really looking forward to our matchup this Saturday and hope we will continue to play in the future - even if we always play in 'bama.

good luck.
