Speculation on A.J. Jones

I have been under the impression that A.J. is all set to go to UF. However, after the commitment from Spikes yesterday I started looking at UF's class. And what a great class it is loaded with talented players. However they have 29 commits (I believe). My understanding is two of them enrolled early and so will count against last year when they signed 18. A team can only bring in 25 players a year period so right now they are two over their max. Not unusual many schools (including Bama) oversign to guard against academic casualities and such. What I'm wondering though is if A.J. is still waiting UF might not have room for him, especially considering several other players are still considering UF. I still think he will end up at UF, but I think there might still be a small chance he comes to Bama the longer he remains uncommitted. Considering the doubts floating around about Hutchins and Wright, he would help bolster our LB corp.

They are going to take 33-35 and recently had a decommit plus there are rumors of a couple of other kids decommiting... I think they will have plenty of room for him and he will go there..

Highly, highly doubt that we land jones. I think he is close to a Florida lock. Wish it wasn't true, but, I think it is.

Actually if the player enrolls in December he counts against that years total. So the two kids enrolled in school this December are added to the 18 from last spring for a total of 20 2005 enrollees. That is the way I understand the rule and is why I pointed that out. I have also heard some rumblings as F$U start their traditional recruiting push that UF may lose a couple of commits but 35 commits seems extremely high. With the quality of kids they are getting, I don't think they will look forward to greyshirting when they could go somewhere else no problem. I agree A.J. is a longshot, was just pointing out the window is still open.

Tebow decommiting from UF? ;) Here goes the roller coster ride :biggrin2:

I'm sure UF will over sign

Hornsby,Fason, and at least 1 other will be a sign and place...........TT will not decommit I would bet my house on that!

Damian Williams is rumored to be one of the non-qualifiers. They wanted four guys to get in early, but I think only two(Tebow and Grant) made it.

According to an earlier post TT is already enrolled at UF. I had heard earlier that he was trying for an early enrollment.
... oh well, i hate moving anyway :D

Tebow is already enrolled and he is one of 5 early entry guys (Johnson, Hurt, Grant, C.Walker and Tebow). Grant still has to get SEC clearance for a class at his JUCO. He may not make it in.

There are rumors around Hornsby not qualifying. This is the first time anywhere I have heard anything about Fayson or Williams not qualifying.

Jones will be a Gator. He'll be one of 4 or 5 LB's we sign. (Doe, Spikes, Josh Johnson, Grant).

AJ is going to UF because of an ill father. He is from Tampa, so Gainesville is the best choice. Otherwise, Bama would be a strong contender for his signature. The only thing to keep this from happening is if UF told him they have no more scholarships. I would find this unlikely, though, in his case.

Word is that A.J. Jones will announce his college choice next Wednesday, January 18, on Countdown to Signing Day.

Unless something extraordinary happens (i.e. Gainesville being hit by an atomic bomb or something), Jones will be a Gator. Why he hasn't committed yet is a mystery to me but among the Florida faithful (check out Hogtown's post earlier in the thread), it's been a done deal for several weeks now. If there was any question whether UF wanted him or not, it was probably sealed by observers in the California/Florida game a week and a half ago... the reaction from some was that Jones was the most outstanding defensive player on the field on either team... no way CUM backs off of that type of player.

If you read the article on tidesports.com about Andre Smith and Hawthorne you might get the impression that we are not going to get them either. It just seems that our recruiting went south after we lost to LSU. I keep hoping that CMS will pull it together at the end like he did last year.
