Spring Practice Thread/News/Predictions

I have no idea as to the reason for Brailsford’s absence from the scrimmage.

If (two big letters) it’s because he’s transferring before he even got to the first scrimmage of spring practice because he was getting beat out, that tells me two things:
1. Brockermeyer must have been so much better that even Brailsford had to acknowledge it, and
2. He (Brailsford) didn’t want to compete.

If (those two big letters again) so, better to find that out in March than in the last 5 minutes of an SEC road game, the bad guys have the momentum, the stadium is rocking, and we need to convert a 3rd and 4 deep in our own territory.

I keep checking this thread; has DeBoer released a depth chart for the upcoming season?

Maybe I should ask Coach Saban?

With the current transfer portal rules (i.e. portal is about to open on April 15), neither coach DeBoer, nor coach Saban, nor anyone else on this board would currently know who would be on Alabama roster after May 1.

So if Brailsford jumps to the portal, who is next up to backup Brock?

Roq Montgomery

After that I assume one of the freshman may have seen some time reps at center as well but im not certain. I though ionata was a good candidate but I think he's been lining up at tackle

We would be looking to the portal again. Already need at least one more OL (not including proctor) if Parker leaves we will need at least 2 for depth purposes. (Don't have to make an immediate impact)

A couple nice throws in the video. Mack definitely had a couple really nice ones. He really might be a good one in the future

Cheat sheet provided by Charlie Potter:
quote:
Scrimmage 1 Highlights include...

0:31 - Long Richard Young run
0:35 - Simpson-to-Lewis TD
0:43 - Josh Cuevas TD
0:46 - Zay Mincey PBU
0:50 - Red Morgan PBU
0:53 - Milroe to Caleb Odom
0:56 - Mack to Robbie Ouzts
1:10 - Germie Bernard catch

One defensive name to watch this year is former 5* linebacker, Jeremiah Alexander. This 6'2" 249 pounder played in 14 games last year. He stood out in the eighth practice. I don't think Lawson and Campbell are in jeopardy of losing their starting jobs, but Alexander is on their heels.
I know he plays inside but goodness, 6-2 250? We are loaded at ILB. good luck beating out Lawson or Campbell, as they say in the army, that's tough duty. Double tough.

I'm not going to read too much into this. But from other snippets I've read the passing game ain't there yet.

“To me the first scrimmage with a new offense, new defense, I think it’s all relative. Have I had better first scrimmages? Yeah. But I think areas where we can improve probably both sides, a couple penalties that are going to be great lessons for us to learn. Not things that were out of control, just mentally we got a gain, we don’t need a hold downfield, just things like that.”

How many people actually believed that by the 1st scrimmage the offense would have mastered all intricacies and nuances of the passing attack?

Seeing the difference in offensive philosophy, I don't expect mastery of it at any point this season. Next season, yes. This season, nope.

There will have to be a lot of study time and working together during the offseason to achieve mastery.

And I foresee several quarterbacks getting a shot at running the offense. Especially from Bama's returning QB's, this offense is nothing like previous years. They are starting from zero. Like learning a new language.
