At gate 46 no one seemed to care what people were bringing in. I had my coat in my arms and could have easily brought something in and they would have not even noticed. I guess it just varies from gate to gate.

I had one of those reusable grocery bags from Publix with my sweatshirt for when it got cooler, my wife's jacket, etc. Apparently it was too big. Easy solution though, I just put on my sweatshirt, stuff the rest of the contents of the bag in my pockets, folded up the bag and put it in my pockets and walked right in. Once I got through, stuff everything back in the bag .. pretty silly to have to do that.

huh? on the stadium policies pages it says u can bring cameras as long as the lense isn't OVER 6 inches.

I know that it took a LOT longer to get in to our gate on Saturday...I don't see why it should take long...bags oversize, throw away or turn away...the whole "searching" thing is what is ridiculous, as there shouldn't be anything to search...
did anyone else have issues with the crimson ride buses? I've ALWAYS gotten on the bus with multiple beers in hand and the last 2 games i have been asked whether they were open or closed. of course i said closed but my wife is a terrible liar and she had to pour her's out. what gives all of a sudden?

Heh. I lived in the women's honors dorm that used to be located behind the Phi Gam and Sigma Nu houses right across University from the stadium. Stumbling distance to the stadium and stumbling distance home. :biggrin2:Staci, you're quite the rebel, aren't you..
Publix and academy were both handing out bags on the quad that are the right size to get in with. It's those drawstring type backpacks. I picked up a couple, but had to empty them to get through. I was turned away from the same gate I've been using for 15 years Saturday. They made me go over 2 gates to get in. Why I have no idea, but they insisted even though I then walked right past the person who turned me away once I got in.

HAHA go in as a size "D" cup, leave as an "A" cup..........Hey, I was there in the late '80's and they confiscated flasks from the guys left & right. I've never heard of a flask bra, but it sounds uncomfortable.
Yeah, it was the same with my wife. She had a cinch-sack like the picture below. She was told she couldn't bring it in. All she had in it was phone, lipstick, point-and-shoot camera, etc..
As far as the lens, we went to the Vandy game, and had no problem bringing our lens in. A tip is to bring the camera and the lens detached. The lens doesn't look as big when you don't have the lens attached. our lens is 6 inches if not expanded, so we put the lock on the lens.
They checked our bag because of the weight of the lens, but she waved us through. We also used a soccer type bag that closed really tight, best thing ever for gameday!
ETA: bag looks like the one pictured above, I got a bama one with houndstooth on the back at the Bama store in Hoover. $15

Granted there are folks who'd bring a suitcase or piece of luggage into the stadium, if they could. However, we're 10 years past 9/11 and 15 years since the Atlanta Olympics bombing (which started this whole searching craze and limiting what you can bring). Some of these restrictions just don't make sense, nor use common sense. The current rules don't really have much affect during warm weather, but once it gets cold, it makes for some tough decisions.
Take the Tennessee game for example: it was relatively warm during the day, but was expected to get chillly by game's end. So, if you take a sweatshirt and a jacket/coat for you and your spouse, that's a good size bundle of clothing. Try cramming that into 2 8x11.5 bags, it won't fit. How about a really cold night game (like Miss. State last year), try adding a blanket, gloves, pocket warmers... you get the idea. What's the harm in allowing a little bigger bag for cold weather?
This whole bag thing is a bit absurd.

They were enforcing policy strictly at Gate 5 when we entered, luckily I didn't have anything except a jacket.
