Re: Cardwell - nothing against the kid personally, but the talent ahead of him is too strong now. I remember when he was recruited, JessN said that if he ever started, we'd be in big trouble...

I like this group a lot, especially Boswell I think he has been flying under the radar and this is going to be a breakout year for him.

I was thinking that Vlachos might take the center spot but, admittedly, I don't know much about McCollough. What is the word on him?

If you'll check the thread titled with you question over on the recruiting board , I listed around 15 of them .

I think it's sort of trick question . Some of the 13 OL's who will be participating in Spring practice will not return in August . I'll give a shot though ....

Spring
Carpenter/Love/Jones
Johnson.........Motley
McCollough.....Vlachos
Boswell..........Ross
Davis.............Pharr

Fall
Carpenter.......Fluker
Johnson.........Jones
McCollough.....Vlachos
Boswell..........Ross
Davis.............Love
How many do you think we lose, and will they transfer or what?

I remember reading last year that the staff was really high on Love. I think he will suprise some of you all during the spring and fall. Also, I don't think Fluker is going to come in and start at LT, very tough position and as has been said earlier, he lacks the polish of an Adre Smith. So, my starting lineup for next year

LT-Carpenter, Fluker
LG-Johonson, Jones
C-Valochos, McCullough
RG-Boswell, Warmack
RT-Love, Davis

I have seen comments from Carpenter that he thinks he can come in and take over at LT.
But from the coaching staff, ALL, I have seen and heard is that he is being looked to for the interior line.

Aside from injury, Johnson will inter spring at LG,
D. Davis at RT;
I would expect from coaches comments that Carpenter will be looked at first at RG.
If anyone else steps up at the LT position, I don't expect Carpenter to get a look there, if nobody steps up he will likely get that shot.
I hope he is a starter being he is coming from juco, if he doesn't get serious playing time, that is a scholly better used on a high school player.

When we line up for VT,
I'm expecting
RT = Davis
RG = Carpenter
LG = Johnson

my best guess.

1ST TEAM
LT-FLUKER
LG-JOHNSON
C-MCCULLOUGH
RG-CARPENTER
RT-BOSWELL

2ND TEAM
LT-JONES/LOVE
LG-ROSS
C-VLACHOS
RG-WARMACK
RT-DAVIS

Pharr, Cardwell, and Deaton may sail off into the sunset.

redshirt year for Mckeller, Steen, and Williams

i know that LT is a difficult possition to learn but i think we all agree that CNS will play the best 5. Fluker will be one of those 5 no doubt.

also, Davis could slide inside and play RG - he is a terrific run blocker - and this move would allow Love to move to RT which would allow for a redshirt year for Warmack.

:BigA: It's almost impossible to pick a starting line up this time of the year. Coach Saban won't even do that, but I'd be willing to bet (baring injury) DJ Fluker will start. One thing is for sure. If you want to know "Where's the beef ?" Look for the O-Line. :biggrin:

McCollough really looks the part . He's about 6'2" 310 with tree trunks for legs and brings some genuine quickness over to the position since he was previously playing SDE .

I'm thinking at least 2 of them will not return this Fall . Similar to the situation with Charles Hoke last season . Here in the Spring and gone in the Fall . Without naming names , I believe one of them will grab his degree this Summer and another is a possible hardship case . There's a third one who I think could play and possibly play a lot if he chooses to transfer . Time will tell .
