The Ole Miss game is old news to me now, but thinking back the thing that bothers me more than anything else is that the coaches did not use a single time out to help the defense. Aside from the two fourth down plays, there were a number of other times in the game in which the defense was not even getting lined up properly. They needed someone to help them settle their minds and get back to the basics. It never happened. Not sure if it would have helped or not, but it would not have hurt.

The player confidence got worse and worse as the game progressed. Call a time out.
CNS acts like calling a time out AT ANY TIME is costing him money. It's pretty amazing that as good of a coach as he is, he doesn't seem to use them well.

somebody need to contact his wife and have her inform him that if he ever goes to halftime or ends a game with timeouts in a close game then he is going to do his own laundry and cooking the next week. from a fans standpoint it doesn't make sense and leaving more than one really makes no sense. thanks for bringing that up and let me know what miss terry says.

If PG is more of a technician as supposed, he probably would function better from the box and rely on his position coaches to breakdown the strategies between possessions. Some guys are just better communicators and some are better strategists.

And I will add “WANT TO” goes a long way in tackling.
They aren’t playing middle school bullies. They are playing SEC athletes.

With all the rules about tackling now, They have to position themselves so they don’t tackle wrong, watch their head position, anticipate the offense’s head position, not grab the collar or face mask, while not hitting at the knees. And they have to process all of this while anticipating the right angle while not hitting too hard. I couldn’t do it.

Have not read the whole thread; but just heard Bama "D" has the worst 3 and out percentage in the country, 9%. NEVER thought I would hear that stat??
Couple that with the fact that they are winning each game by a 20+ margin, and we come to the conclusion that most stats after 3 games are just that. Numbers that won’t mean a thing in 8 weeks

Seems to me that Spring practice is the time when fundamentals such as tackling are stressed and when the younger players get plenty of opportunities to learn Coach Saban’s defense. It is especially valuable for those early enrollees. Remember we have two true freshmen starting in our secondary and another playing a large number of snaps on the DL. We didn’t get those practices this spring and I think it is showing in some of the poor tackling and missed assignments. JMHO

Reading his description of tackling, which is close to what I heard decades ago, my first thought was "Do that, and you'll end up with targeting." It's simply impossible to make the necessary adjustments in time. Your description is accurate...

I know if i was an opposing OC, what i'd do...I'd have twins set to either side and bring one in motion towards the formation. If defender moved with him (man coverage), he'd sit down in the lb's way (run a pick) and i'd hit the rb coming out of the backfield on that side. The other WR would be running a go to clear the db. Lane laid the blueprint for that saturday night. I'd run it till bama stopped it. We. Never. Adjusted.
Lane did not lay out that blueprint. It has been going on for a few years and LSWho and Edwards-Hellaire did it to perfection all last year. UGA will do it against us with Cook on Moses and Harris and it will be hard to stop but we have to run to the ball and avoid big YAC.

Or possibly get out of man 98.5% of the time and run some zone? Then you hear "well the qb can pick the zone apart"...let those 5* studs up front pin their ears back and get after the qb. Lswho may have laid the blueprint last year but Lane laid it this year and ua didn't adjust at all. I didn't see the who game last year, but sounds like ua didn't adjust then either. See a pattern here...?

Alabama doesn't typically run a pure man or zone - you usually run a mixed man/zone. It makes is harder to read that way. They send a receiver in motion to try and figure out - is it man or zone. But Alabama does a lot to make it look like one and not be, and run mixed coverages.

I agree. Execute the plan correctly and everyone all of suddenly will be improved compared to last week. I still think It was miscommunication between LBs and Safety. clean that up and we'll see better performances

I often wonder if our defensive is too complicated. Our lineup is full of 4 and 5 star athletes. Sometimes I think we need to just put them in a base package and let them get after it.
Maybe so, but they were always able to get by with it before about 2018.

I got too thinking about how fast & how often our offense was scoring all game long..And how much that has too factor into the performance of our D..

When you think about how our quick scoring offense scored early & often never truly giving our D a chance to get their legs back underneath them..

When you do that against an SEC team it's tough on our D stopping those Big Boy's on the offensive line as the game wears on..You could see our players on D sucking wind in the 3rd & the rest of the game..
May have been a factor as the game went on, but they sucked long before they started sucking wind.

Alabama has averaged at least a number three recruiting class over the past five years. We rank number 66 in total defense. For the third or forth year in a row Sabin was supposed to fix this. I don't even know what to say about top 3 bottoming to 66. Color me puzzled. No. Color me mystified.

If we crush UGA today I highly doubt we will see many on this thread for most of the remainder of the season. This maybe the one time I wish the Sunshine pumpers would takeover the board for the week.
I will be here win or lose. Those that don't show up if we lose, well that is their prerogative. As fans we all have an opinion, and while mine may differ from yours, it doesn't make either of us right or wrong.

I wasn’t talking about you or delivery man, I am talking about the ones that only post when things are tense and are nowhere to be found when things are great.

I agree. I did not think you were referring to me or delivery man. We all love Alabama, we just see some things differently. I enjoy your posts (for the most part).
