Some interesting facts about the sum of our two games with LSU in 2011:
These stats came straight from the drive charts and play by play on the ESPN site. I left off the two overtime drives because they don't really play into what the story tells (due to the fact that you start overtime on your opponents 25 yard line and are typically assured of scoring at least a FG, even though we missed ours).
For the two games:
Total drives:
Bama - 22
LSU - 21
Alabama: Drives started on our own side of the field, and ended on our own side of the field - 6 out of 22 (27%) - 4 punts, 1 INT, 1 end of game.
LSU: drives started on their side of field, and ended on their side of field - 16 out of 21 (76%) - WOW!!! - 12 punts, 3 INT's, 1 fumble.
Alabama: Drives started on LSU's side of field, and ended on LSU's side of field - 4 out of 22 (18%) - 3 field goals good, 1 field goal missed.
LSU: drives started on Bama's side of field, and ended on Bama's side of field - 2 out of 21 (10%) - 1 punt, 1 field goal good.
Alabama: drives started on our own side of the field, and ended on LSU's side of field - 12 out of 22 (55%) - 4 field goals made, 1 TD, 4 field goals missed, 1 punt, 1 INT, 1 end of game. 9 legitimate scoring opportunities from drives started in our own territory.
LSU: drives started on their own side of the field, and ended on Bama's side of field - 3 out of 21 (14%) - another WOW!! - 2 punts, 1 end of half. Simply put, in two full games of football they never took the ball from their side of the field and did anything against our defense!
So, for all those LSU fans (and other Bama haters) out there who think that Alabama was lucky to get into the BCSNCG - think again. LSU was the lucky (or unlucky) one apparently. Alabama totally dominated LSU for 8 quarters of football.
