Tackles for Loss, Sacks and QBHs

In 2005, we had 96 TFL, 28 Sacks and 35 QBhs through 12 games. This year through 11 games: 48 TFL and 10 sacks and 29 Hurries. We rank 110 in TFL and 116 in sacks.

Last year's ranking: Sacks: 57; TFL: 60. (Total D: 2)

With no pressure, be prepared for at least one long Au scoring drive.

I know that getting pressure on him is key, but I don't expect many, if any, sacks on Saturday. I just hope we can put enough pressure on him and hurry him enough that he'll make some mistakes and we can turn him over like UGA did.

Intersting stats. Could our poor/ineffective (whatever word you want to use) DL play have affected our OL play? During the Spring, I heard comments on this board about how this may be the best DL we have had since the CGS era. The offensive line was holding its own against this "great" DL in spring and fall practices. At the very least the thought was these guys are practicing against what we thought was a great DL every day, they have to get better, right?

Was it all a mirage? Did the OL think they were better than they actually are because they were holding their own against this DL? I don't know, but I do know if you aren't pushed to the limit, you never will get better.

Could this be a contributing factor, or am I just way off base?

I remember reading those same statements bamacpa70 and can't help but wonder what happened to a DL that seemed to have unlimited potential. I've read thoughts were many have accredited the lack of pressure by our DL on the 3 man scheme that CJK is so fond of or others point to the lack of quality backup. Neither of these would completely explain why we almost get no pressure on opposing QB's if our Defensive front is truely among the elite.

I am all for getting as much pressure as we can any play. I would not expect to see it this weekend, though. I bet Ole Joe wants Cox to beat us and not let his receivers make plays in man coverage.

I thought it was amazing last week when Cox threw those picks. He had ALL day long to throw and still made AWFUL decisions.

this DL is not comparable to 92. if we had another true DT, it could be a good line.

but we don't and we play 3 guys... which means our best two linemen get double teamed and the RB is there to pick up the spares. it's too easy to protect the qB with this scenario.

Last year sack and tfl production was arguably poor as the rankings suggest, but we were still 2nd in overall D. And last year we had Anderson-we are seeing how good a rusher he could have been. So from last years D, we have five players who made NFL rosters, three (harper, ryans, and anderson) who, barring harper's injury, might have come in 1-2-3 for rookie D player of the year, and we still had a very weak pass rush. Also, that lack of pressure hurt us in games-We let teams drive the length of the field at critical junctures in the key games last year and this trend continued through nearly every game this year. 2006: Vandy, Fla, Tn, LSU in the third Q to put it out of reach, Ole Miss two long drives early, AK 13 play/93 yds 3rd q, and on and on. Last year it was Tn, LSU (80 yds 3rd Q) and that long drive Au had in the 2d Q put out the dimming ray of hope.

I wish we did not have to experience those excruciating drives against a soft D-I hate watching the opposing QB have their career day against our guys. Loosen up and let our D go after them.
