Ted Turner Blows A Gasket

Ted's comparison of Fox's popularity with Hitler's is as far off as Ted is. Hitler never won more than 37 percent of the vote in any free election. He was appointed chancellor by a senile President Paul von Hindenberg. He used the Reichstag fire as a pretext for suspending civil liberties and arresting opponents. Even under his dictatorial control, Nazis only got 37 percent of votes in the following Reichstag elections. Early on, Nazis just weren't that popular.

Post hoc, ergo propter hoc.

Another fallacy in logic: that Fox's high ranking is due to a conservative bent only. Maybe. Personally I think they just put on a better show than the other networks. They've got a lively format and strong, interesting people at every slot. Check out CNN someday. Most of their talking heads are real sleeping pills. NBC has one good anchor who's outnumbered by the Fox brigade. Don't know about ABC. Don't watch them. CBS take heed: Ideology, undiluted by laughter, is a pain.

This TV news business is half show business. Rush Limbaugh would not have lasted a year on radio if he did not entertain and inform. Fox's reply to Ted Turner tells everything about the network, its sense of humor and panache:

"Ted is understandably bitter having lost his ratings, his network and now his mind -- we wish him well."
