That looks to put the kibosh on Tubby(or anyone else) to TAMU. Sounds like they have their man.

I think Sherman is a good fit for the Aggies.

Good luck to him and aTm.
I agree and with Coach Kubiak being an Aggie, he will probably get alot of slack cut to him for hitting the recruitng trail as well as getting his feet wet with the team a little early.

I'm kinda surprised by this hire - I could see someone like Chris Peterson really doing well there. Wait and see, but now that fRan is gone, I hope A&M can start playing some real football again. i used to enjoy watching their defense play ball (and did under fRan as well, but for very different reasons)...

There seems to be mixed feelings about this hire amongst the Aggie faithful.

He seems boring at first glance but after digging deeper I see a lot of positive. Farve is probably a good judge of coaches, and he really liked Sherman when he was the head coach and GM with the Packers.

ESPN is also reporting the story from the Houston Chronicle about an 11am press conference. If it's true, good luck Sherman!

A&M set to introduce Sherman as coach
Texas A&M has scheduled a news conference for 11 a.m. today to introduce Mike Sherman as its football coach, replacing Dennis Franchione, who resigned Friday.

The Houston Chronicle reported Sunday that Sherman, 52, had emerged as A&M's leading candidate. Sherman was head coach of the Green Bay Packers from 2000-05, compiling a 59-43 record and winning three division titles.

JMO, of course, but I think its kind of an odd hire. I thought they might go after a young up-and-comer college HC. Sherman has a bit of history there at TAMU so I would assume thats why the PTB wanted him. Guess they had him targeted all along since it happened so quickly. Sounds like the aggie fans have mixed feelings about the hire though.

If true its nothing but a good ol boy old money hire. There are better coaches out there than Sherman, Who is on nobody's list.
With this hire they should have kept Fran.

I don't understand why they went out and immediately hired Sherman. I mean, come on, it's only been 2 days since fran resigned. At least go out and try to hire the best guy. If you fail, so what, then you go back to Sherman.

It will be hard for anyone to pull Petersen away from Boise. He is getting paid 1 mil a year in a city that is hard to beat. His son also has a special medical problem and Boise is one of the few cities that has the medical care to treat him.

Ahh, I wasn't aware of the medical issues, makes sense.

Aside form that, $1M a year for a coach that appears to be as good as he is chump change nowadays.

Those were my thoughts too, strictly from an outside viewpoint. I'm not sure they interviewed anyone else. At least most of the aggies don't seem to think so. It sure seems like most of this was worked out prior to Fran's "resignation".
