When you look at Freeze's record, you see that he's really just an average coach. In 13 complete seasons as a head coach, he has one 12-win season in NAIA and 3 10-win seasons in FBS. People know how to defend basketball-on-turf offenses now and everybody has access to the skeezy things that were going on at Ole Sis when he got that top 5 class. Freeze continues to be what he always has been, which is average.

Freeze maybe one of the best coaches in the country in getting his teams fired up to play big games, but he also has a habit of losing games that he has absolutely no business losing.

I think Freeze's time at the barn will be determined by his record against Alabama. And I think Freeze knows and fully embraces that.

It's clear he didn't prepare one iota for last year's New Mexico State game -- a 31-10 loss, at home, to New Mexico State?!!? You gotta be kidding me. It was a different story against us the following week, and we were stupid lucky to win that one. The obvious conclusion is that he spent two weeks (or more) preparing for us and little to no prep for NMS.

I would say they embarrassed themselves, but if nobody remembers or cares, is it really embarrassing?

Freeze may be a lot of bad things, but he's smart enough to know what the barn PTB require of a head football coach.

It's simple....if Freeze consistently goes 7-5 / 8-4, with the occasional 9-3 / 10-2 season, and breaks even or better against Alabama, he's safe as a baby in his mother's arms. If he goes 10-2 every year, but loses two-thirds to three-quarters of the games against us, he's gone.

The problem isn’t Freeze as of now. People have got to realize what a big rebuild AU was following the potato loon. He literally left a bare cupboard that will take years to rebuild.
No kidding... Auburn's roster is dreadful. Even if they hold on to a top 5 class this year (should be top 10 at least I would think) and make out like crazy in the portal... You need to replace half the roster. That is a tall order to do and then get everyone practiced up and field ready.

Neon Deon has tried it two years in a row at Colorado with mixed results.

It's truly an amazing coaching job Kiffin has been able to do with having to get all his players from the portal. Reminds me of when Jackie Sherrill was at Miss St and did it with JUCO. One bad chemistry year and it can/will all come crashing down. You're betting your pile every year.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

I mean he’s obviously trying. The HS recruiting is good and all that. He’s making out like a bandit on the trail.

His seat is definitely not warm yet even given the product on the field because, but the fanbase is starting to try and fire it up. Which is dumb.

I think 10 wins is probably his ceiling because yeah you’re gonna have those inexplicable losses once or twice a year.
It’s going to be dependent on if he gets a quarterback. Ole Miss they were patient in waiting for him to get through Bo to Kelly but idk how patient Auburn will be if both Thorne and Hank stay “works in progress”.

I think he will get another year barring a serious scandal or something that presents a total loss in confidence amongst the prominent boosters in his ability to compete with Deboer. But next year he will either have to put up or shut up.

Speaking of which, I think his personnel decisions ultimately lost that game. 4 quarters of Thorne and we probably win going away.

The backup being the most popular guy on the team is a tale as old as football. Last two weeks I’ve been telling people who thought that it couldn’t possibly be worse that it very much could.

I think both teams offensive game plans prevented them from blowing the other out. Petrino’s continued insistence of passing the ball deep when they were hurting Auburn running with the qb and RB hampered them. Auburn playing musical chairs with Thorne and Hank hurt them. I don’t think Thorne is a great option but after the New Mexico game it was apparent that he was the better option.

Oklahoma vs Auburn might be a weird game to watch like Auburn vs Arkansas.
