My sister and brother in law are big Albarn fans. During the Iron Bowl when Brodie was sacked 9 times (or whatever, dont even remember the year), me and my Dad were at the game. She called me every time he was sacked and left a voice-mail (I didn't get her calls because I was in the stadium). In typical Albarn fashion, she wouldn't answer her phone during Rammer Jammer in 2008, but I did leave her a nice voice-mail of that amazing song song by 93k of us that day :). Last year, after receiving several texts talking smack when Albarn was beating us, she lost it when I texted her a nice play by play of our game winning drive.

I love my sister, she is an amazing person. I just can't stand her during the Iron Bowl.

I also broke up with my girlfriend of a year (a big Auburn fan, the reason I moved to Auburn to go to school) during last year's Iron Bowl. That may seem extreme, but she was loser. Her day sucked.

My son is a goobeR. Funny, for the past two years he "doesn't care about football" any more. Midway through this season the suddenly starts buying new Orange and Blue stuff and saying War Eagle a lot.

As many of you know, my name is Staci and I married a barner.

It's been 11 years. That six year streak of losing to the barn was miserable. My husband is a "bad winner." I, being a true Bama fan, am a good winner, meaning I know how to keep my mouth shut when we win. My husband has none of these abilities I possess.

Our last IB in Tuscaloosa two years ago, we had one of the worst fights of our marriage during and after the game. It started because he had too much to drink and was a butthole in the stands. I didn't stand up for him, and in fact told him he was being a jerk. He was about to get into it with the Bama fans around us (thank GOD we were not in my usual seats, I would have literally DIED from embarrassment), but managed to find his last bit of common sense and decided to go stand below, along the passageway where he saw some fellow barners. Our fight continued after the game and at one point he walked off, leaving me and our girls on our own (no problem for me, but I was wondering just how far he'd make it through Tuscaloosa without getting arrested...he was looking for a fight and I figured he'd find one). Long story short, he made it back to the hotel on his own, without being arrested, but I'm scarred from that whole episode and I've told him he WILL NOT drink or embarrass me in any way this Friday. He will not be given one inch on this. He is remorseful for how he conducted himself two years ago, and here's hoping he knows I mean business.

This week, as per usual this week every year, has been somewhat tense. We have agreed not to discuss the $Cam situation. It bothers him greatly that I believe AU is corrupt as the day is long. We came very close to arguing over it the other day, so we stopped ourselves and agreed not to discuss it at all.

This Friday, we will spend little time together prior to the game. We'll drive up together, walk over to the quad and go our separate ways for a couple of hours. I've got some tailgates to visit and a couple of old college friends to meet for a drink at Egan's. He's got some barn tailgate he'll go to for a while. Then, I'll go to the Walk of Champions while he goes to the Non-Tiger Walk. We'll meet up afterwards, hang out for a bit, then head on into the stadium.

How things go from there is yet to be seen. I've said this many times: I love him in spite of his poor taste in college football programs. He will never be a Bama man and I will never be an Auburn girl. But he is my man, and I am his girl, so we find a way to get passed this bitter hatred of each other's teams.
Wow...thanks for sharing, Staci. Women like you deserve a medal in this life and sainthood when you reach the next for being able to love somebody with issues like your hubby has.
You are an example for every Bama fan, male or female, as to how they should comport themselves. And thanks for the example you give that shows that, as big a Bama fan as any of us might be, it's a game whose significance is not (or should not be) at the top of the list of what's most important in life (except for about 4 months ).

I had a friend's wife and a female first cousin who love to get under my skin and pretend to be Aubs.....I always give 'em a little test..."Name 5 players....and at least Heisman trophy winner" if you can't.....then you're not a true fan......works every time........ P.S....both are now Crimson!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like I'll watch the game with my new Auburn girlfriend at my house. The relationship might literally be decided by how it goes...not the game necessarily, but if I can handle her cheering and trash talk. :biggrin2:
Send a pic so we can decide is she hot enough for you to risk dating a Auburn fan

You won't like her very much by the end of the game. Most barners I know do not know the correct way to conduct themselves either in victory or defeat.

My advice to you is to have a second tv in the house where you or she can go to get away from each other if things get too tense.

That's how my husband and I watched our first few IB's during our relationship.:biggrin2:

The only ALLBARN fan I have in my close circle of family and friends is my best friend Kim. But she is one of the rare ALLBARN fans that are pretty objective and fair. We usually don’t watch the game together but we talk or text a lot during the IB (mostly good natured ribbing and such) and we usually recap the game afterwards over the phone. My mom and my sister are all Bama so it’s all good. My husband is from Indiana but when he moved here 7 years ago started following Bama and is all Bama now. During Mark Ingram’s freshman year, he predicted that Ingram would win the Heisman (I still have the email.) When we first moved in together, I was unpacking some of his clothes while he was at work and found a few interesting things: a Jeff Gordon shirt (I have been a Earnhardt fan for 30 years but I let it slide), a Peyton Manning Super Bowl MVP shirt from the Colts 2006 win (he’s a HUGE Colts fan) that I debated over but let it stay because I am about compromise. However when I found the blue shirt with “Notre Dame Football” on it……………….it went into the trash. A girl’s gotta have her limits! All in all, I got it pretty good!

I would like to see a correlation between "Divided Houses" and domestic violence cases. I bet you would see a peek in November.:)

Nah. This falls into the masochist/sadist category.

Masochist: "Hit me".

Sadist: "No".

Just insert Auburn fan/Bama fan where appropriate.

My Dear Abby advice column:

1. If you married a Barner, get a divorce! This will save you from having too much grief in your life. Everyone deserves to live a happy life.
2. If you are dating a Barner, drop him or her before it's too late. Nothing good can come from this. They get UGLY and fat like their Barner momma's after a few years.
3. If you have a Barner descendant, disown them immediately. Kick them outta the house. Let them live in a trailer park on the Ugliest Village on the Plains of Georgia.
4. If you have a minister who is a Barner, stop attending that church. You could end up in something comparable to Hades, i.e. the Ugliest Village you know where.
5. If you have an insurance agent who is a Barner, drop that policy and look for a legitimate agent.
6. If your parents are Barners have them committed to a home for those who have dimensia, etc. or a home for the insane.
7. Never vote for a Barner for any office in the state of Alabama.
8. Never trust a Barner!
9. Never buy anything from a Barner!
10. If you have a doctor who is a Barner graduate, you'd better find a new doctor. They prepare doctors down there to work on animals, not humans.

To be continued next year!

My wife had been one of those "kinda" Auburn fans before we got married and I exorcised that demon! She later went to FSU and became a Nole fan, but anything's better than being a Barner. Well, maybe with the exception of a Tennessee fan! Now I'm proud to say she AND my daughters will sit with me and cheer on the Tide!!

My wife was raised to believe in the dark side. After our first child was born her mother tried that "we''ll dress him up in orange/blue" crap..... I threw that mess out and initiated the barner exorcism plan. 13 years later and finally she is very much a Tide convert. It is possible :BigA:

I have a few cousins that went to Auburn, but the majority of the family members are Alabama folk.

I do work with a bunch of Auburn fans, but they're all pretty reasonable save for one.

My wife cheers for Auburn, but we've somehow managed to make our relationship work.

We entered an Alabama/Auburn video contest this past weekend and won 2 Iron Bowl tickets! It will admittedly be a strange experience cheering for opposing teams while seated side-by-side.

Here's a link to our Iron Bowl video if anyone's interested:

I grew up in a family full Golden Domers. Saturdays were almost unbearable, as ND football was on every radio, in the house. SEC games were not broadcast, very often, where we lived. You can imagine how well I got along with them, once we started playing ND.

Fortunately, I had moved far away, before then. And didn't have to listen to any of them.

Having family, that is "the enemy" is one thing. But to marry one..................you have to be meshuga!

All of my own sibs live in other states and are either fans of other teams or have no real allegiance.
My wife's family, OTOH, are all Bama fans except for one. Her sister is a barner, but I think that's only because her late husband was a barner. We're all working on her to change over, and I think the stink being raised down on the farm will help in that transformation. :biggrin2: :BigA:
