Auburn is scrambling now after that narrow win last night and will attempt to lay claim to any split national championship that anyone will award them. But they will not be successful at this I believe because of the factor of Utah. Last year as you recall there was no team outside of the traditional conferences and then they changed the rule to allow a team like Utah to play in the Fiesta Bowl. Last year the second place team, Oklahoma played in the Sugar Bowl. Remember that Oklahoma had been number one for most of last season until they lost the the Big 12 Championship game to Kansas State. Then Kansas State played in the Fiesta Bowl. What Auburn needed to do this year was to play a higher ranked team than Va. Tech in order to lay claim to a split national championship. Texas or California would have been both higher ranked tems for them to play than the Hokies. But because the rules were changed and Utah was allowed in and the split national championship will never happen . Tubs will protest but to no avail. He will claim that he may never have a perfect team again and we Bama fans will hope that that will the case. But the the national championship is not a lifetime achievement award it goes to the team that the voters choose. Auburn will be number two and will hate it. My, my how times have changed!!! GET ME OUT OF HERE PERCY!!!!! I AM READY TO MOVE ON TO 2005!!!

I disagree 100%...

You can only play and beat the teams on your schedule and Auburn did that. They have as much right to lay claim to the MNC than anybody, just as Utah does and the winner of tonights game. The BCS can crown anybody they want, but until they actually have a playoff system it will always be a MNC instead of a true NC.

You can look for fault anywhere you want, but AU won all of their games and a 13-0 SEC team is as good as anybody in the nation. We have one or two championships that we claim where others say it's not so, why can AU? Give them credit when it's due and this year, it's due.

But you cannot changed the rules...

in the middle of the game. USC and OK started off the season number one and number two and that is how they finished. They both deserve the one and only shot at number one and AU cannot stand it. Certainly, Auburn had their best seson ever and they are to be congratulated but not at the expense of the Trojans and the Sooners. Auburn can lay claim to any title that they want to. Bama did in 1966. Our slogan was, "IN YOUR HEARTS YOU KNOW WE ARE NUMBER ONE!!!" You have my permission to use that slogan if you wish but most of the country will not.

I disagree with you on some of your points. If Auburn is awarded the number one position by the AP, then they can claim the MNC. If we go by the logic of the aubies, anybody can claim the MNC no matter what the polls say. And therefore, Alabama fans should be able to lay claim as national champions in 1966 and 1977. Although it was obvious to me and most everybody I spoke with during those two seasons that Alabama was the best team in the country, the biased media and coaches did not award the MNC to us. All Bear Bryant did was keep on winning and Alabama claimed 6 championships during his tenure. Whether fair or not, the aubies and utes must learn the painful lesson that just because some people feel you are the best team in the country doesn't give you the right to claim and accept it. If Tubby continues to win at AU, then I'm sure he'll win his coveted MNC somewhere down the road.

The main thing...

that I agree with you on is that Tubby may win a national championship somewhere down the road. No doubt, he is building a solid foundation for the future. Their defense that returns next year will be awfully good and they will be very good in all positions except qb. Cox is a big question mark to me. I do not know how well he will perform next year. They will be favored to win the SEC next year even despite what everyone was saying about FLA earlier. However, I agree with what Brodie said during the MC bowl. We are going to contend for the WEST next year. I believe everyone in the SEC will contend for their divisions with the exceptions of Vandy, MSU, Ky. and Ole Miss.

I think AU has a few more issues than just the QB. They have quite a few seniors that will be missed.

Not likely for a few reasons. First, Auburn was the best team in a pretty weak SEC. Second, they lose a bunch of folks to graduation. Third, there is no guarantee that Auburn won't lose portions of their coaching staff to other schools over the next year or two. That staff put together a good team, and schools will be noticing. And hiring.
They deserve credit, however. They are the legitimate SEC champs (unlike they pathetic claim to their "SEC-West Co-championships"). Claiming a national championship this year cheapens their legitimate claims to legitimate championships and displays a sadly loose grip on reality.

Normally I would agree but LSU, Georgia, Tennessee and Va Tech all have losses other than Auburn. Plus the fact that maine and wyoming come in and whipped 2 of our teams along with a mediocre gophers team beat us.

They have to be awarded the championship, ours was awarded when there wasnt a "set" of rules layed out. Penn State cant claim '94 nor could we if we had beat Florida in the SEC title game. We would have been in the same boat.
Also Auburn had a chance to play some quality opponets like last year, but instead of facing USC and Ga Tech, they placed La Tech and Citedal on their line up. Yeah I dont want to here them whine about it, when they failed to face good competition. They only faced 2 legitimate top ten teams LSU and Va Tech and won by a total of 4 points.
