This is the first SEC team and the o-line wasn't pushing any one around. Do you think of o-line will be ok?
Six, or even seven, guys can't push eight around. That was every first down. I'm not sure why we didn't keep them looser on first down, but I'm sure the coaches will see and remedy that. I'm not worried...This is the first SEC team and the o-line wasn't pushing any one around. Do you think of o-line will be ok?
I agree and disagree at the same time (yeah, confusing). Last year's team would have made holes - even with all those piggies in the box. In that this year's O-Line can't do that, we see a potential problem. But, and this is a huge but, last year's team was stymied if they couldn't run the ball. This year is far from it.Six, or even seven, guys can't push eight around. That was every first down. I wouldn't be worried about it at all. Arkansas sold out to stop the run. Eight guys in the box on every first down. We could have passed for 500 yards, but the game plan was to wear down the Hogs defense and run out the clock. This is the first SEC team and the o-line wasn't pushing any one around. Absolutely on the money. They decided they were not going to give up a bunch of 12-15 play, 8 minutes drives and get worn down. They were trying to engineer a shootout. Problem is, our D-line took their guns away.:biggrin2:Good to see others saw the same thing I did instead of going into a panic. The piggies were adamant about stopping the run. Their worst fear was getting beat down by the run and the clock being run out on them. They stacked the line ALL DAY LONG. We adjusted and tore them a new one through the air. Balance is good, very good. 35-7! ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!
Well it makes a huge difference. It doesn't mean our OL is "having problems". There aren't very many teams IF ANY in today's college football that consistently run with eight men in the box. It's a numbers game and the offense is out numbered. The OL did fine.I'm also a bit concerned about our ability to sustain drives and run it with consistency -- eight in the box or not.
On the flip side, our offense's ability to hit explosive plays looks like the best it's been in a very, very long time. I'm very impressed with McElroy and his decision-making, accuracy and deep-ball ability.
Hopefully the strengths will help even out the weaknesses, but there come times for everyone where you've got to be able to just line it up and pound it for a yard or two.
I guess we'll have to bring in Cody for those critical plays :biggrin2:Hopefully the strengths will help even out the weaknesses, but there come times for everyone where you've got to be able to just line it up and pound it for a yard or two.
I'm complaining in another drive about us running up the middle on 1st down the whole fourth quarter. But with that said, we went 99 yards on our last scoring drive, even with 2nd and 9-10 the whole drive. That is sustaining one pretty well I think. And, as has been said, that was Arkie's game plan. Thing is, #12 proved he could make them pay with the big plays. That will help down the road, I assure youI'm also a bit concerned about our ability to sustain drives and run it with consistency -- eight in the box or not.

I'm not sure why so many don't understand the numbers game. No team in the nation would have consistently ripped off five yards against that many at the line - impossible when you're outnumbered by one, two or more at the point of attack. IMO, we could have made them pay more. However, I leave that thinking up to the staff...Well it makes a huge difference. It doesn't mean our OL is "having problems". As crazy as it sounds, too, I don't think we've seen everything this offense can do. Everyone questioned the Wildcat; and today they showed a new wrinkle out of it (the reverse pass). It seems as if they're peeling this onion week by week; and, whether it's Ingram with the flu, Upchurch's sprain, or Julio's bruised knee, we haven't been at full-strength with our skill players yet - which has probably slowed things down somewhat (even though the stats don't show it).IMO, we could have made them pay more. However, I leave that thinking up to the staff...
When you read these remarks and glance over at that avatar, you can't help but laugh.but Tiffin was 5/5 in his PATs today![]()
