The o-line didn't work so good

I think our offensive line did just fine. We didn't have a 300 yrd running game today but we sure had a good day passing. I'm content w/taking what the other team is giving and coming out with a win.

I stated in another post that these other teams can load up on the run if they want to but it will still be a long day for them as the offense has shown themselves to be able to move thru the air as well.

Opposing teams PICK YOUR POISON.

Let me see if I can wrap my head around this problem.

We beat top 10 VT by 10 points
Beat Fla Int by 26
Beat N Texas by 46
Beat Arkansas by 28

I can't find much to gripe about. We seem to be scoring a lot more than the other teams. Guess I have come to grips with the fact all our units cant be #1 in all the rankings but Tiffin was 5/5 in his PATs today ;)
Not only that, but everyone was saying what a weak VT team we beat and then they take "THE U" behind the woodshed and do, well, you know what - ask Coach Dye... ;)

Good to see others saw the same thing I did instead of going into a panic. The piggies were adamant about stopping the run. Their worst fear was getting beat down by the run and the clock being run out on them. They stacked the line ALL DAY LONG. We adjusted and tore them a new one through the air. Balance is good, very good. 35-7! ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!
That is what I was thinking. They didn't look great, but you can't go helmet to helmet when the other team has more helmets. G-Mac looked good and now teams know that if you stack the box, we will take to the air effectively. If you don't, we have four RB's that will cram it down your throat. Pick your poison!

Couple of things about the play calling and the OL. First, it's true that it's very tough to run on superior numbers... but we actually had some success running outside the guards most of the day. Second, not only was I puzzled because we didn't throw the ball more with them stacking the box, but I wondered why so many runs were straight up the gut. The only thing I can figure is that we guaranteed to run time off the clock versus an outside run.

That was my conclusion, as well...

I'm also a bit concerned about our ability to sustain drives and run it with consistency -- eight in the box or not.
Well it makes a huge difference. It doesn't mean our OL is "having problems". There aren't very many teams IF ANY in today's college football that consistently run with eight men in the box. It's a numbers game and the offense is out numbered. The OL did fine.

Yeah, maybe last year's OL spoiled me a little bit. :)

I love the way we've been able to hit the big plays this year -- I'm just a little concerned about some of the inconsistency we've had running it thus far. It's kind of been feast-or-famine at times.

If you factor out Richardson'*****-twice-behind-the-line-then-break-two-more-and-outrun-a-CB 52-yarder, we ran it 40 times for 82 yards against a pretty suspect defense. (Also, to be fair, some of those were behind the 2nd OL just trying to milk clock.) Worth noting, at least.

With all that said, I'm thrilled with our offense, considering what many expected it to be. This is a championship-caliber team, and I'm just thinking about possible chinks in the armor.

I thought that was a fierce first half of football. The Trent Richardson run took the wind out of their sails.

Along with the cutting below the knees, there was a sense of urgency to that first half, and obviously Petrino pulled out all the stops in this game. He didn't seem too happy over getting stomped last year -- remember all that grinning he did over this and that call last year at Fayetteville? He did the same thing today when it was all but over in the second half.

LSU won a national championship under Miles after the big LSU nose tackle was cut below the knees at Auburn. This was a team recruited by Saban, just as this present Bama team is.

This game today reminds me of Michael Jordan's last championship win at Chicago. The opponent pulled out all the stops that day. (It was the game when Jordan held his shooting hand high in the air after the winning shot.) That might as well have been a football game, the way the refs "let them play." Jordan showed that he could still hit the basket with all that roughhousing going on.

Petrino tried it all today, including an eight man line. Alabama still beat 'em 35-7, and could have beat 'em worse, if Saban hadn't called off the troops.

I've been watching the strength and conditioning of the opposing teams. We are beating their butts in the 2nd half, and there hasn't been anything they can do about it.
Stacking the line against the run forced us to pass. Wow! Look how that worked out.
Ryan Mallett proved to be only average when he was running for his life.

Grant had little success running up the middle, while the line was stacked to prevent the run. (Grant is easier to take down than our beefy backs)
As a plus, Grant was able to run out the clock and was sure handed w/o fumbles.
I noticed that it took the D.A. (Not P.A.) announcers till late in the game to realize that Arkansas was beaten. I noticed as the game wore on that Mallett was pretty beat up when he came off the field.
Remember that CNS told us he wanted teams to hate to play us...
They already hate it.

Yea I am not so worried about the OL as I am the playing calling when we see 8 or 9 in the box...... I am watching the game for the 2nd time already and it was if arky was begging us to burn them on the outside........ On one of the plays I watched they had the nerve to single cover JJ who blew right by his man but G Mac didn't see him or it was an easy 6...... Hope teams keep loading the box because it would seem that while Mallet might be some peoples best NFL prospect the real deal is wearing Crimson~!~

Yeah I was a little surprised by the play-calling on 1st down today as well, seemed very vanilla to me. We could have ripped them up with play action passes if we wanted to, apparently the coaches didn't want to. :)
I'm not worried about the O-line.

Seriously? You don't score 35 offensive points and rack up 400+ yards of offense with a bad O-line. And it could have been worse if CNS had wanted it to late in the fourth quarter. Granted Arky doesn't have a great defense, but they did stack the line to stop the run. We beat them with the pass. I think we are a more balanced offensive team this year, as opposed to last year when our strength was the running game. I do expect improvement from week to week, only because CNS will demand it. And if that is the case, we should be in Pasadena in early January.

I know I have the Crimson colored glasses on, but I really think that we are playing the best football of any team in the country. The offense has scored 34+ in every game (granted FIU and NT are not quality opponents, Arky is and VT spanked the "U"), & the D is tough. It is early, & there is still a lot of football to play, but I think this could be a very special season if we keep playing the way we have, and improve week to week.

Let's also keep in mind that last year's OL had problems pass protecting. They weren't the greatest OL in the world. They ran block well but couldn't pass block very well. Let's not throw this OL out the back door just yet. In my opinion this OL is better than last years. They're aren't as "big" but are definitely more athletic. I'll take an O-Line that allows us to pass and run over one that only allows us to run any day. We've only played four games and they're still gelling.

35-7 Folks!!! 4-0, 1-0 SEC and ranked #3 in nation. A far cry from 2006.
