Re: The Official NSD Predictions Thread

I agree with you Perrett; according to my father,(who was around in the 60's) The Bear musta had some kinda staff too, with the way they recruited back then. Seems like ole Coach Bryant could pull 4 and 5 star recruits from everywhere. Dad said back then Bear's starters would have a backup on the sidelines just about if not as good as the starter. Yep, we're definetely looking at some great work from our staff and CNS. We better take advantage and give thanks to the Good Lord above that we have this abundance of riches. For it won't last forever. But, I'm greatly enjoying it while I can.

Yes and no. When CPB was interested, absolutely, but our talent really dropped off in the late 60s before blasting off into another galaxy through much of the 70s. And back then there was no such thing as 25 scholarships. he could largely sign as many as he could get.

In other words, what CNS is doing is largely unprecedented

How we finish

Just some thoughts on how we finish: We have 27 commits right now. Word is that, that is all we can take with two back counters. However, J Taylor has been asked to greyshirt due to injury and there are possibilly two rumored academic casualties (Hill and Gladney) so that means a possible three to add. Hill should find out his test score this weekend so that should resolved before signing day. Gladney will prep or juco if he does not qualify. I doubt we will let either sign if there is any question. If they make it and there is room we would take them in the fall. If there is not room they would have to greyshirt or go elsewhere. If Hill does not make his score we will take another OL, probably A Young if he is still available, so that does not open up a spot for some that we are waiting on. I think we are holding a spot for Winston and a DL. We would make room for DGB by asking someone to greyshirt, but I don't think he comes without an OV. We need Winston and Morris if P Sims decides to leave (no idea if he will, but need to be ready in case). We would like one more DL since we loose so many after next season. We don't have room without attrition, but I think we will see some there before the fall. My guess is we wanted Ward the most but his brother got him to OM. We wanted Jenkins next but the dogs hounded him until he caved. Goldman would be next but don't know that we want to wait around or deal with any drama (We don't have to anymore if we dont want to). So if Casher comes in for an OV look for him to flip. We could shut it down at 25 and probably be #1 and meet all of our needs with little attrition (3 wil have to go). I do think we will try to bring in 27 with the anticipation of attrition. I have my guesses of who will not return or at least what position group will loose someone, but I won't share that until atfer signing day and only if the mods say it is okay to spectulate. Thoughts?

I gotta bad feeling about goldman, don't think he's coming. Casher would be a sweet get, he looked good in the all-star game i saw.

Re: How we finish

Lots and lots of smoke around that one. It's just the touchy subject of a former assistant "recruiting" a commit at his former school.
Nussmeier didn't contact him. His father contacted the staff. His dad knows that Coach Nuss can get the most out of Cyler's ability and get him ready for the next level. Coach Nussmeier talked to Cyler and actually encouraged him to keep his commitment. We will see how this one plays out but it's not your standard assistant leaving and trying to poach commits from his old school scenario.

I'd rather have Miles. Don't have to worry about baseball. RTO, are you saying he will visit Bama on his own dollar?

Flipping Miles would be big, he looked awfully impressive in the Army AA game. Lots of upside to him.

I understand not wanting to poach players from your former school, but at what point do you allow the player to make his own decision?

I don't think there's any doubt that he's going to make his own decision, I just believe CDN was doing the "professional" thing in encouraging him to honor his commitment. I'm sure that doesn't mean he wouldn't be thrilled to see Miles follow him to Bama. JMHO.
