Concerning CECOT, the reporting pulled by CBS, etc.: I believe we truly went publicly off the tracks in 2002 with the John Yoo "Torture Memo" where we attempted to legally justify the unjustifiable. It made America no different than any other nation and no better than the worst. It made a joke of our morality.
When John McCain didn't resign on the spot, didn't even protest, he dishonored himself and heros like Jeremiah Denton. He absolved his North Vietnamese torturers. He (and the rest of our government and judiciary that went along) nullified the propriety of the Nuremburg trials, and the hangings of Tojo and the rest of the Japanese and NAZI war criminals. We affirmed Herman Goering's arguments.
The current regime despises democracy, freedom and the American people. They are believers in "Might makes Right" and will never release power voluntarily. I believe they will point to their "successes" and claim that "We are at War" and suspend elections. I believe, like the Israelis with their government, we will allow them to do as they please. I believe we are in desperate trouble.
