Word spread like wildfire here in Hattiesgulch. If he's here he is close to Timberton Golf Club.Maybe he could play a round...of golf!
I flew the Space Shuttle, drank three six packs, ran a marathon in one day, and still was home in time to kiss my lovely wife and welcome home my perfect 3.2 kids to our country chalet. Dinner with Joe Montana and Gen. Powell was lovely and insightful. :biggrin:Wow! On just ONE day, if I smoked three packs of cigarettes and drank a fifth of whiskey, I don't think I would survive it. And you did this for years?
You need to have your liver enzymes checked.

Ya learn something new everyday!People use sex as an outlet because it makes them feel good.
LOL - I actually gave up the booze about a year before the cigarettes, but I never struggled with either. I was told how hard it was going to be, and how difficult it would be to stay "clean", but nothing. Not the slightest withdrawal from either, not the least interest in returning to either.Wow! Watching Alabama whip the likes of Tigers, Gators, and Vols is pretty darned "thrilling" and it certainly FELT like excitatory neurotransmitters were released. Thanks for clarifying: I'm an Alabama arse-whipping addict.Yes, sex and other thrilling activities cause a release of excitatory neurotransmitters.

BTW, drinking the fifth/night is even more impressive when you understand that I weighed about 150lbs at the time. Amazing that I survived...
I have heard and read that before. My experience is such that I just find it hard to believe. I know that makes me hard headed, but I can't help it. I can't imagine anyone doing more to become an alcoholic than I did. I mean, I drank so much that I didn't feel it until I had about 8 shots in my system - and I only weighed about 150 lbs. I won a lot of money in drinking contests with people twice my size while in the Army. Today, 3 shots has me ready for a nap. :biggrin:You never developed a physiological dependency on either substance. You apparently don't have the genetic predisposition. Plenty of people like you have similar stories and can therefore not appreciate the hell that those who do develop physiological dependency go through trying to get and stay clean & sober. Count yourself lucky. If your genes were just a bit different, your experience would've been far more challenging.
For the most part, I don't think you can drink yourself into becoming an alcoholic. You are born one. I could be wrong but I think it has to do with the way your body metabolizes alcohol. But I will say this, 3 packs a day is a heck of a lot of smoking. When did you have time to sleep?I have heard and read that before. My experience is such that I just find it hard to believe. My personal experience forces me to view it the same way that many view sex addiction (though your opinion is educated, so far more reliable). I know at a logical level that I am probably wrong, but my gut won't let me ignore my personal experience... :conf3:
LOL - at that point in my life, I was either in the Army or (doing other things that I would rather not go into). Also, I was young. Who sleeps when they are young? :biggrin:For the most part, I don't think you can drink yourself into becoming an alcoholic. You are born one. I do not consider it an illness. It's a weakness. The guy needs a piece of paper from somebody that will stand up in court. If he had married a good ole southern girl,,, when she caught him, she would have fixed him on the spot.
I never understood how people could smoke that many cigarettes. In Michael Landon's biography, it states that he smoked 4 packs a day. His lungs probably looked like a lump of coal.LOL - at that point in my life, I was either in the Army or (doing other things that I would rather not go into). Also, I was young. Preach on! You hit the nail on the head "lack of morals."Tiger's trash. Why'd he marry her if he wanted to run around. And what about his poor kids. They're really just babies. Tiger is not sick in any way and does not have an addiction. He's got a bigger problem than that and lack of morals is one of the symptoms.
Looking back, it is pretty disgusting. I never smoked in the house, but everything that I had must have reeked. I ran every day, so my lungs recovered quickly when I quit. I ran a 4:34 mile while smoking this much. I sometimes wonder how fast I might have been had I never smoked. :frown:I never understood how people could smoke that many cigarettes. Youth and the 10th Mountain Division... :biggrin:Utterly a super human feat.
Working your way up to a 4:34 mile while smoking three packs a day, when did you work in a fifth of whisky?
WOW. What was your secret?
Yep - 4 minutes 34 seconds. The shame was my staying power. My best time in the Army two mile run was 11 minutes. Huge drop-off. That might have been the smoking, or drinking, or both.
