If this is truly the right thing to do then lock down every school in the country and all go to virtual classes. Cut all tuition 75% and I’ll be good with the decision. You can’t, under any circumstances, let 5,000 to 50,000 students go back to campus for in person learning. Please let me know if I’m wrong.

I’ll reply to my post to add: all dorm, meal plans, apartment lease etc. should be refunded to any student who’s paid those during this time.

Can't argue with the logic right up until tuition.

FWIW...before this forced schools into online mode in the Spring, schools charged extra fees if you were taking an online only course. I know for a fact UAB did and I had the top financial guy in one of the schools tell me he was bringing in more money via online courses than he was for traditional butt-in-the-seat classes because of it.

Reduced tuition seems right, but it's a non-starter for colleges. But, let's be real here. If college costs were ONLY tuition, it would be more manageable for a lot more people. The dorm costs that are required for incoming freshmen, fee after fee for everything under the sun, so on and so forth. When enrolling our 20 year old at UAB for this fall, the list of fees and assorted costs just looked like a money grab by the school. And she's certainly not living on campus. They need to be more realistic about their fees. This is a time when every business, every household, needs to consider doing with LESS of everything. Consider it a "rationing" if you must.

Just because you CAN sue someone, doesn’t mean you will win, and I am an attorney. Even in our sue happy society, you still have to prove your case. That said, I don’t think there is any school who can sustain multiple settlements from covid related injury. I am not sure how lock tight you can draft a waiver to protect the schools completely. However, I am all for teams playing in the Fall. I know people who have had Covid and are fine, from age 5 to 75. I know a few who have died but have had numerous comorbidities. I think that if players are willing to accept the risk, then let them play. If coaches are willing to assume the risk, let them coach. If fans are willing to assume the risk and attend games, let them. Our high school has been lifting weights all summer and started practice last week. We’ve had one kid test positive and nobody else got sick—around 80 kids from 7-12th grade. I believe that this virus can be managed in the college football environments. I think people need to stop living in fear and start living again. We play our first HS football game tomorrow night so if anyone gets exposed by the opposing team, we should start seeing sick kids in 2-7 days. I won’t lie and say that it doesn‘t make me a little uneasy, but I refuse to live in fear. And I may or may not be influenced by watching the BCS National Championship Game against LSU.
Well said.

Hearing the NBA and Yale have piloted an ultra cheap saliva test that is eminent with FDA approval. If the SEC can get their hands on this test it would reduce costs tremendously and increase testing frequency significantly. It could prove smart by SEC to slow walk their decision on the season.

I heard a whisper of the cost that SEC schools are sustaining to test for COVID among athletes. It's not sustainable.

I dont think where ever you are you are not shutting down the young. They are going to have fun and also parties so what do you do? The virus is here so I think its a no win situation.

Without heavy fines, this will not work. Clearly the carrot of a college football season was not enough. Need a big stick and some police officers willing to use it.

I paid more for online tuition at Athens State 10 years ago than in person courses cost.
