Question: Today, did Cody announce he'll return for Sr. year?

That was reported on the local radio show, but I have not seen an article and the comment was not referenced. Just wondering if anyone knew more about this, and if so what is the reference.

Thanks,
Dizzy

I would wait until the season is over to even worry.
Local Radio says a lot.
Let's worry about the next game, worry about next year after that.

I would think CNS will give him an honest opinion and I wouldn't be surprised if he did the necessary things in order to get feedback from the league. I certainly wouldn't blame him.

Maybe they'll tell him he needs to put on a little size. ;)

At this point it's all speculation. I sure hope he comes back, but wouldn't blame him if he leaves.

From what I read Cody said last week that he swears he is coming back to BAMA next season Roll Tide Roll!!!!

“Yeah, I’m definitely coming back,” Cody said in an interview last week. “When I signed, my main thing that I cared about was graduating from college. No one on either side of my family has ever graduated from college.”

From what little I know, this upcoming NFL draft will be the last that doesn't have a cap limit on the amount of money rookies can be paid. As much as I'd want Cody to return, I wouldn't be surprised if it's best for him to enter the draft along with Smitty. AS sounds like a lock for a Top 5 pick, but I'm not sure about Cody. I guess our best hope is if he's not projected very highly (later than 2nd round), but I can't imagine why he wouldn't be in high demand.

I wonder if the Rookie Cap going into affect next year will cause players who might normally stay for their Senior years to go ahead and step up, unless draft prospect are just a LOT better the following year for their position.

Cody wouldn't announce until at least a month or so before the draft.
??

You have to fill out paperwork for the league first. Get an agent, go to the combines, and do a bunch of trainign prior to the draft. That includes not returning to school in January. Its a big production that has to be done way before a month before the draft. Thats in April.

Well there are 2 ways to go about it.

Option 1: In January you can say 'I'm going for sure'. Then you hire an agent and you can obviously quit school.

Option 2: You have to stay in school and can't hire an agent. And you can request help and evaluation from the NFL on your prospects in the draft. After getting all the information available to you can decide to put your name in the draft or stay in school. I believe you don't have to make a final decision until a few weeks before the draft.

I hope he stays, but who could blame him for leaving if he is gonna be a first round pick in the last year before a rookie cap.

I have heard a rookie cap was being discussed, but the entire salary cap expires after 2009. I do not think that there is a rookie salary cap for 2010 in place, but I could be wrong. At this point, the entire CBA is up for renegotiation. If I were a player, I wouldn't factor something that nebulous into my decision...

Um, Cody said 2 weeks ago he's staying. Why are we questioning this over and over? He's staying, that's the end of it, period. Good grief.

One correction...he announced 3 months ago that he would be staying.
