this is a great thread. something else just occurred to me tonight.
in my house, i clean the dishes. i hate cheese. not bc i dislike the taste, but bc it sticks to dishes. then, when i try to clean the dishes, it gums up my brillo pad. this irritates me. if i were benevolent dictator, i would ban the touching of dishwear with cheese.
Heh. My daughter is reading the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. Your aversion to this dairy product reminds me of the "cheese touch." ;)

I think it's terribly unfair that there are people starving in the world - there are more than enough resources for everyone to have enough food.

I only wish I knew how to correct it - seems like most everyone on earth would rather play politics than actually focus on basic human necessities.
Cannibalism. Problem fixes itself. You're welcome.

The Use and Abuse of Civil Asset Forfeiture
In general, you needn’t be found guilty to have your assets claimed by law enforcement; in some states, suspicion on a par with “probable cause” is sufficient. Nor must you be charged with a crime, or even be accused of one. Unlike criminal forfeiture, which requires that a person be convicted of an offense before his or her property is confiscated, civil forfeiture amounts to a lawsuit filed directly against a possession, regardless of its owner’s guilt or innocence.
I would increase the burden of proof to require conviction of a crime.

Well, you reminded me of a legal principle that makes my blood boil, especially when it's used to build shopping malls and other such nonsense:

Eminent Domain
The power to take private property for public use by a state, municipality, or private person or corporation authorized to exercise functions of public character, following the payment of just compensation to the owner of that property.

I have several "four-letter words" that I use to describe this accursed situation.

I hate to even think about people not having enough to eat. So every time it starts getting me down I go down to the 7-11 in Florida and watch the idiots buy milk for 1.5 times the price at the grocery store and then spend about three times that amount on alcoholic beverages and lottery tickets. Somehow I then come back to the reality that most people are right where they want to be... Don't take that to mean I don't think anyone should be banned from buying anything they want anywhere they want, I just think it would be better if they did it with their money!!!

The roadblocks that people with health problems have to overcome. People with health problems often times get treated worse than convicts in this country. Not talking about people that caused their health problems by making stupid decisions.

Nice sentiment; nevertheless, there are way too many people living on the Earth. We wouldn't be having "climate change" issues if the world population were significantly smaller.
Without immigration, we'd be barely above replacement level here. We have wide ranges of empty land if people wanted to move there. The overpopulation of the planet is not because of Americans.

No matter how high our collective standard of living is, it just raises the bar for what people feel entitled to without making any effort to earn it.

No matter how much you have, there is going to be somebody that has something that you don't, that you want.

This creates dissatisfaction that either drives you to try to obtain it, or to feel resentment at the differential.

This is true of all humans, and even lower primates.

A monkey will be happy to receive cucumber as a reward until he sees another monkey getting grapes, at which point he will throw his cucumber at the researcher in jealous rage.

Yep, and this is why Democrats have been playing the class warfare card for generations - because it often works. Exploiting ignorance and jealousy for political gain is a pillar of the DNC.

Just because we have open spaces here with few or no people doesn't mean we need more people.
