As far as (living) comics go, I would have to say...(and this, I think, is a very "generational" selection)
Robin Williams
Steve Martin
Steven Wright

I enjoy the humor of Chris Rock, Ron White, and Kathy Griffin. I think as far as straight stand-up goes, they are three of the very best that are still out there doing their thing.

Overall, however, when I think of "funniest" people I think of who makes me laugh on a daily basis, be it on radio or TV. In that group I have to say Howard Stern is one of the quickest wits out there. When Artie Lange was on Stern's show, he was also one of those "funniest" people. On TV, Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David are two of my old favorites. SOOOO witty!

Paul Mooney wrote a good bit of Richard Pryor's bits. Do a search for him on Youtube. I'd link them here but they wouldn't pass the board rules.

I would definitely put Carlin and Pryor on the list, although they are no longer the funniest people living in the world...

In terms of the living:

-Maria Bamford (If you haven't seen her stand-up, do so. She is fantastic)
-Dave Chappelle (Too bad he burned out, but then again... it didn't allow for him to become stale, which is one thing he feared)
-Bill Murray (Do I even need an explanation?)

Honorable Mentions:
-Patton Oswalt
-Brian Posehn
-Steve Martin
-Chris Rock
-Tina Fey
-Bill Hader
-Jon Stewart
-Steven Colbert
-Nick Swardson
-Conan O'Brien
-Dave Attell

In terms of those who have gone before us:

-Richard Pryor
-George Carlin

This is a tough one. Comedy is different to so many. Are we talking stand up, skit, or comedic actors? Al Bundy was a great comedic character.

Steve Correll on the Office is a great comedic actor. But I am sure he is not good at stand up. Tina Fey and some other SNL cast members with the right skit are hilarious skit comics.

We frequent a comedy club here in Atlanta and see alot of good comics, many which are no names. And comedy is my favorite genere of movies. But I know that some things I find funny others dont.

Carrot Top??? Seriously, is that a joke. So not funny. But hey if it makes you laugh thats all that matters.

I have too many favorites to list. My iPod is full of standup comedy. People have given up asking what I am listenign to in the office when they catch me laughing.
