It's never too early to ask this question. If you were recruiting at UA, who would be the top 5 prospects you would put most of your effort on in the 2012 class? You can select someone that is already a verbal w/ UA b/c lord know that verbals aren't LOI.

My top 5 right now would be
1. Kwon Alexander - what a great talent, has everything you want in a LB
2. Jameis Winston - we have a great shot at him, could make a huge impact
3. Dorial Green -Beckham - he looks better than JJ at this time in his life, SAY WHAT?!?!
4. Geno Smith - I love shutdown CBs and he has the potential to be one under CNS
5. Eddie Goldman - going from Jesse Williams to EG would be dominate DT position for quite some time
Additional Prospects to watch for - Justin Shanks, Nick James, Barry Sanders, Keith Marshall, Johnathon Gray, TJ Yeldon (for DB IMO), Eddie Williams, Greyson Lambert, Gunner Kiel, Chris Black, Mario Edwards, Trae Elston, Chris Casher, Ricky Parks

I'd love Jordan Jenkins out of Georgia. Monster talent, and it would send a clear signal to Richt et al that we're not backing down in their state. Good thing about him is that he's an Army brat, without any instate allegiances.

1. Kwon Alexander - LB.....maybe the top player in the state and country at his position

2. Winston - QB ....need a QB to step in after the McCarron/Sims era to take ove...easily see him going to play baseball though

3. Rushel Shell - RB .....do everything RB....kid is the truth....starter from day one wherever he goes. Would be huge to nab him after striking out on Crowell and Brown

4. John Theus - LT Maybe the best of the OL with Armstead committing to USC...kid has a great skillset and excellent size!

5. Mario Edwards - DE After missing out on Chris Casher and possibly Clowney, he would be a good get to fill that void.

My top five would be:
1. Kwon Alexander- I LOVE our LB history and think he could carry it on
2. Jameis Winston- I would really like to add the aspect of a QB that is a true threat to run, to our multiple sets
3. Barry Sanders- Petty, but I want him for the talent AND the name
4. Geno Smith- Next to a top notch LB my favorite position is a shut down CB who can produce some pick 6s
5. Dorial Green-Beckham- A big strong punishing WR makes our offense SO much more dangerous

I'm hearing a ton about Kwon Alexander not saying he is a lock but do you guys think we lead.
I have read the opposite. An article a week or two ago had some interesting quotes by KA. He mentioned how "stacked" we are at LB and the rest of the impression was that it was a big negative for us. I mentioned it in another thread about barner recruiting tactics a few weeks ago, but they're the ones that probably already got in KA's ear. It could've just been one article, but I definitely would say we are NOT a lock for KA.

My top 5 would be:

1) Winston: we need a QB in every class and he's very talented and would be a big recruiter for us if he committed early i think.
2) Green-Bckham: top WR in the country...we are losing Hanks, Maze, and Gibson after this year; we need help at WR unless we get some of the young guys REALLY stepping up in 2011
3) Eddie Williams: I know he is committed, but he is a 5 star at a position of need (S) with Barron graduating and Lester possibly going pro after 2011.
4) & 5) are cop-outs since it's early, but we need at least 1 stud OT and at least 1 stud RB for depth purposes since TR is probably gone after 2011 and both Douglas and Fluker would be eligible (doubt they go, but they'd still be technically eligibile to).

1) Winston-watched him play since he was a freshman. He has the "It" factor. Great passer can make all the passes, plus he is very athletic and can make plays happen on his feet when the need arises.

2) Rushel Shell-Bama got a shifty back with Hart last year, need a bigger back this year and he has the perfect size. Think he would be a great back in the system.

3)Geno Smith- has the potential to be a shutdown corner and Bama's has the best developer of DBs in the nation.

4)Green-Beckham-Randy Moss like but more physical. He is a freak athlete just check out his dunk contest video.

5)Nick James-he is a giant human being, perfect nose tackle in a 3-4 and he has a very nasty mean streak. His Army All-American combine video shows that off.

My top five would be:

1. Barry Sanders- Next year is the year we need a marquee Running back, and I think hes the one
2. Dorial Green-Beckham- The next big playmaker. Watch his film, and he is as close to a sure thing at WR as I've seen since JJ
3. Kwon Alexander- Great in-state LB, and love to keep those type players
4. Jameis Winston- Naturally talented QB, and would be great to add to the class.
5. Geno Smith- solid CB, which is always a valuable addition

I haven't had a chance to look at all the national guys yet although Beckham looks to be a no brainer.

I'd like to see us pursue Nick James who is the highest rated prospect on the Mississippi Coast. He's a 6'5 340 DT/NT and very athletic. Can you say Mount Cody...lol

He was the star of the recent Army combine where he totally dominated. He's already been offered by LSU and the in state schools.

My top recruits would be:

1. Keith Marshall - RB - 5-11/190/4.32 This guy has it all. Prototypical size and very elite speed. He's also in basketball country so the temptation to stay instate might not be that high.

2. Dorial Green-Beckham - WR - 6-5/210 Well, you can't coach size and this guy has plenty for the WR position. Shutting down the fade rout with this guy at WR will give opposing DB's fits for exactly 3-years. With this guy on your roster the Hail Mary is a great play call on 1st and 10.

3. Eddie Goldman - DT - 6-3/290/5.30 This big man could very well be the nations #1 Propect for 2011. He hails from the same geographical region as our newly acquired Cyrus K. There's not a true football school in the DC area (except maybe Va Tech) and Goldman looks like a travelor listing Miami and UNC as his favorites. Anytime a top lineman isn't obligated to the home school Nick Saban is in play.

4. Zeke Pike - QB - 6-5/225 Big guy with a tall arm to boot. He has tons of ACC and Big elventytwelve offers, but, any top QB wanting to play in a basketball conference isn't a top QB in my book. Jameis Winston is another option at the QB position for 2012 but his father seems to be behind a baseball coup for his talented son.

5. - Dakota Ball - DT - 6-2/282 Ball plays several positions in HS the most intriguing of them is TE. When you have a defensive lineman with the ball skills of a TE and the motor of an H-Back he's bound to be a special player. Blocking this guy from the end position is Saban's 3-4 will give offensive linemen fits letting our LB's graze and feast on ball carriers. His skill set is unique including a high motor and bad intentions.

There are several top end prospects out there in this class. Many right here instate. Making a top 5 is a little premature because these guys still have their senior seasons to play. There could be some off the radar players make the transition to high end prospects between now and the heat of recruiting season 2012.

Intruiging guy...plays a multitude of positions and one of the better athletes in the 2012 class. Safety should not be an issue in the future with HA-HA, Jarrick Willaims, Nick Perry and Eddie Williams!

First time poster! Though I have been keeping up with tidefans for a long time.

My top five would be:

1. Dorial Green-Beckham. We'll have some lightning fast WR the next few years but not really a big physical receiver. Marvin Shinn should gain some muscle and become a physical WR but we could always use another. I'd love to see this guy in Crimson!
2.Eddie Goldman. At 6'-3" 300lbs he could come in and be our next great DT. Imagine the rotation with Williams, Ivory and Goldman at DT. He already has a Bama offer I believe.
3. Kwon Alexander. He's gonna be a beast! He covers a lot of ground and can also get in the backfield in a hurry.
4. Reggie Ragland. He is the perfect MLB in a 3-4 defense. At 6'4" 245 lbs. he can clog up the middle and he is a sure tackler. Just watch some of his highlights.
5. Keith Marshall. Though he needs to gain some weight he has about everything you want in a RB. He has very quick feet and soft hands. He can do it all.

Man... I'm still exhausted from NSD last week, but a few in no particular order are: Nick James, Barry Sanders, Dorial Green-Beckham, Kwon Alexander, and Winston/Lambert

I would base the answer to this question based on Alabama's apparent needs in the 2012 class.

1. QB - Jameis Winston
2. LB - Kwon Alexander
3. RB - Rushel Shell
4. WR - Dorial Green-Beckham
5. DL - Nick James

I don't know how the barn can sell Alabama losing four, maybe five LBs, after 2011 as a negative, but they'll try the depth chart angle with him. The point is, Kwon Alexander may be able to play earlier at Alabama than he would at Auburn.
