I think that is hopeful thinking. Sears and several players were on last years team and that team had to be begged to play d as well. CNO has also gone after the top talent both recruiting and transfer. Just missed on them other than a decent recruiting class just not stellar.

The pursuit of AJD dismisses this theory IMO...

Here is some of his highlights and he looks ideal for CNO's system. Has a good 3 pt stroke and quick to the basket. Needs some work in the weight room and training table. I like this pick-up.

Honestly, I’m wondering if it’s not going the route of lower profile players. Last year, there were a lot of egos on the team - and when you have to sit your seniors down and talk to them about defensive effort, there’s an issue. I’m wondering if Oats isn’t more interested in coaching up hungry, less talented players as opposed to guys who have repeatedly been told they’re the best thing since sliced bread. I’d love to ask CNO “which team did you enjoy coaching most - the 24-25 team or 23-24?”

You’re exactly right. Coach the guys and develop them instead of running around every year trying to find the next big thing in the portal. This new day of college sports has gotten to the point it will be difficult to remember exactly who played for Bama because they weren’t here for over 10 minutes.

I think getting a player with only one year of eligibility left stinks a little. One thing good with only one-and-done players from the portal though is the coaching staff does not have to wonder if they are coming back or not.

It's definitely concerning because neither Wrightsell nor Holloway are true point guards - more catch and shoot guys in my opinion. I feel like we need someone who can penetrate and create for other players on a consistent basis.

I would think so too. I knew CNOs has to be searching and has been because Philon has no intention to return unless something drastic happens. Got to think it’s an extremely desirable opportunity that has proven record to get to pros as well.

Just can’t think we have anyone to handle the ball except Holloway who is TO prone and better off ball mostly as everyone has said. After him we don’t have anyone.

I'm a little disappointed in this but something tells me that RG values himself higher than CNO does in terms of pay. (I'm not going to call it NIL because it stopped being NIL a few years ago.) He is a prime example of someone that chased a higher paycheck but hurt himself in the long term because his development declined at KU. Maybe he will thrive in Bucky's system but he's going to a program with a first year coach who has been successful at lower level but unproven on a bigger stage. If he had stayed at Bama and continued to improve, IMHO he would be in a better long term position than he is currently.

A little surprised. I think RG is a better player than some on the board thinks (think CNO knows his game better than he does) but I also don't think he's the type player that we can't probably find elsewhere too.
