Like Stevenson. All potential. Didn’t see much. Let’s see what happens
Agreed on both players. I missed some games in the middle-to-late portion of the season so if Reid did something impressive in those games then I missed it. But the games that I did see Reid play, I thought he was very unpolished to be a 5* guy. He flashed his potential a few times so I understand that he could develop into a really good player but that is the case with a lot of guys. Potential is worthless if it never comes to fruition. Reid may turn into a great player at his next stop, or he may be just another guy that could have been fantastic but for whatever reason, never quite makes it. Quite frankly I saw more to be excited about with Stevenson his freshman (but not sophomore) season than I did of Reid.

A little frustrating as far as how much CNO worked with him as far as watching out for his health and holding him out. Obviously don’t know what coach wanted as far as stay or go but just shows even if you really take care of a kid they don’t care about loyalty or anything.

Maybe he thought he was healthy/good enough to play in a lot of those games and CNO and the team would not allow him to play. If your goal coming into the season is be a 1 and done guy and they won’t let you get out on court to show NBA scouts your talents it may hurt the connection.

The likelihood of that is slim. Coach specifically said to make sure he doesn’t hurt his future. Kids always think they can play but have to listen to the professional trainer and doc.

Updated portal targets. Many are the same but some added at top. Murphy is from Birmingham.

Family... some are more involved than others in these processes.

As some have speculated, Jarin to UNC.

Not a bit surprised and I think we mark this as "addition thru subtraction."

Not sure how I feel about Reid, but this is a positive for the roster IMO!

FWIW, I like Stevenson more than Reid. Reid was a "get the best we can get" signee but didn't fit the system. He is a much better fit in a system like Awbarn's where they utilized Jawnee Bum in the paint in a more traditional center role. He isn't a deep range shooter and he isn't an exceptional guy off the dribble. Free throws were abysmal. I think he can be a good player at the college level but not for us. I think Oats realized it and encouraged him to move on. Best of luck to him but to me Stevenson is a bigger loss. All in all, I think we will be fine without either if we are able to replace them with quality guys.

Think Reid is definitely a bigger loss. With less than half the minutes his numbers are close to Stevenson. I think he has only 16 less made FG on the season. Better athlete and control. With that said not sure I saw NBA talent from either yet but I would put more money on Reid and system fit more for him as a poor man’s Brandon Miller at this point but already better than Stevenson. But who knows what happened, if coach told him to move on I think he would have entered portal sooner vs probably was negotiating money then bailed.

In watching several practices last summer, Reid flashed at times. However, it appeared to me that he was trying to force a round peg in a square hole more often than not. I think he's better suited to isolations and possibly some post play... but also could be a beast on the boards in the right system. When we've got him out around the three-point line, it's hard for him to fill those kinds of roles.

Hot take, but Reid and Stevenson switched bodies when noone was looking.

Reid tried to play like a finese player too often when he got PT, despite having a powerful/stocky body.

Stevenson tried to play like a power player, when his body is better suited for the perimeter. Didn't help he could get pushed off balance by a feather either.

If CNO works the portal right, I think we may improve in both of those spots.

Welcome to the world of "one and done." It used to be only a few teams like KY had to deal with this because they could get the "one and dones" that went on to the league, but now, every team in America has to rebuild every year.
"One and Done" used to mean we would be watching you in the NBA for the next decade. Now it means we get to watch you at ITT Technical next year where you have announced you are "taking your talents".

IMO, one of the saddest things about NIL is that many kids simply go to the highest bidder... even if it's a small caliber team that offers their entire NIL budget to him. The kid that goes to that small caliber school is never or rarely seen by fans in things like the NCAA tourney... and his skills aren't showcased on a national stage as they would have been prior to NIL. Who's the loser? It's not the kid, his family, or even the schools. Rather, it's the fans of the sport - the ones who would have loved to have had a chance to watch him on a national stage. The more and more I think about NIL, I'm coming to the conclusion that the big loser in it all are the fans.
