Question for those of you who were fortunate enough to take a trip back in the '80's or for anyone who is familiar with the area: What is the best airport for flying into Penn State? I've been asking around, and I've heard both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. I've even heard someone say Baltimore. What seems to be the best? Thanks.

I cannot recommend which airport, as State College is in a rural area equidistant between Pittsburg and Philadelphia. BUT, I want to warn those traveling with RVs, that I followed my GPS suggested route, and it was a scenic route along a small trout stream, until I came to a 90 degree right turn, ONE LANE underpass, under a railroad track, with an arched 8' vertical clearence. I was glad that I was in my SUV, as opposed to the RV, as I would have been hard pressed to be able to back up and get turned around. RVers either use truckers GPS, or consult with truckers.

There is a local aiport ( University Park Airport ) served by commuter airlines with connections to both Pittsburg and Philadelphia. There is also a very nice hotel just on the fringe of the campus, within eyesight and walking distance to the stadium; Ramada Conference Center, State College, PA, with airport shuttle, with advance notice.
This should help make it a fun trip, nice bar and restaurant within :)

State College is kind of out in the middle of western PA. I've checked already and ALL the hotels in town are booked, so you'd better look outside of town. I'm planning on going with my brother and have already resigned myself that there's no way we'll be able to stay in town. That's fine, this is a once in a lifetime thing for me. I will say, I've spent time in western PA before and while they're women are by and large homely, the people in that part of PA are VERY, VERY friendly, and hospitable. Very seldom do you encounter a jack you know what in that part of the country.

I've talked to many fans and have gotten differing opinions. I tried booking rooms a few months ago in State College and couldn't get anything. Well, I could have gotten a Spring Hill Suites for $799 a night. Anyway, the closest I could find a hotel is Harrisburg. So, I'm flying in and out of Harrisburg. That's where one of the University travel groups will be located as well. I had heard Pittsburgh would be cheaper to fly into, but I couldn't find a decent hotel closer to State College. Harrisburg is supposedly 1 1/2 - 2 hours from Penn State while Pittsburgh is at least 3 hrs. away. I heard Altoona is a good place to stay if you're flying in/out of PIT. Unfortunately everything I looked at in Altoona was already full as well. That's why I'm going the Harrisburg route. Let me know if you find out anything differently. I'm only going on advice of others instead of personal experience.

Already full but the Ramada Altoona has rooms starting at $250 a night. I'll just stay with Harrisburg thanks.

Harrisburg is probably the best idea. It is an easy drive from there. PSU is a very raucous and proud fanbase. It should be a memorable game in a silenced stadium. PM me if you are driving the PA Turnpike and want to stop by for a beer on my patio and listen to my PSU neighbors tell you how Saban pays players and the entire SEC is cheating. 24-3 will shut them up for a few minutes.

I made a reservation at the Hampton Inn in Lewisberg, PA a few months ago at $131 a night. It's west of Bloomsburg and a few miles off of I 80
