Sorry if this has been posted already but got it from the local news here in Pensacola. Looks like Trent is going to go with #3 according to this article. Not really a traditional RB number but I know the single digit number is pretty popular nowadays among players.

On a serious note, why are we doing the duplicate number thing? My guess, is that we're doing it when an upperclassman has a number that a younger guy wants. Give the younger guy his number and by the time the younger guy hopefully becomes high profile he's then the sole user of a number. Am I in the ballpark?

Would you let number choice be the reason you lost a blue chipper? I don't think it would come to that with TR, but it would with some recruits.

AlexanderFan basically has it right. More or less, it's just another recruiting tool.

At the end of the day, it's usually not that big of a deal, but you use what you can. Some kids become quite endeared to their numbers, and they want to continue using it in college. Burton Scott was one of those guys... wearing #1 was a big deal to him for whatever reason.

As long as Dre gets enrolled in Summer II he will wear 21.

I think it would have been cool if he chose #7. I vaguely remember some backs wearing 7 but not 3. Of course it is personal preference, I am more of an even number kind of guy - 22 was my number in high school.
