My brother-in-law is leading a group to Haiti in a few weeks, and is trying to get food to Port au Prince. Here's the text from his e-mail.
"Last night I found out from Elise who is currently in West Palm Beach that a commercial boat was leaving from Miami for Haiti on Monday. So last night I emailed Kids Against Hunger. Their website said that they have a distribution center in West Palm Beach. This morning I talked to Scott Anderson from Kids Against Hunger, and he asked me if we wanted 10 boxes or 10 pallets. After conferencing Elise we got the number to the shipping company. They said that they could take the shipment, we just had to have it there by tomorrow morning at the latest. It runs $2 per cubic foot and each of the pallets in question is 48 cubic feet. Each pallet holds 7128 pre-packaged meals containing a high protein content and loaded with vitamins and minerals. Much more nutritious than rice and beans. So we can ship each pallet for under $100. The pallets will be waiting for us at the customs dock in Haiti. Their Florida director just called me and said he only has 1.5 pallets(about 12K meals) right now, but will see what he can do to get it to the port. It is a 4 hour drive from his location. Pray for this situation RIGHT NOW! If anyone else has ideas about how to get pallets of food to that ship call me. Either donated food or food that we have to buy. Our money will go much farther here than it will there right now, and we won’t have to transport it all the way across the island."
Anyone think they might be able to help in some way? E-mail Jeremy at jsanders@teklinks.com
Thanks.
