Trump attacks Iran (was "Help is on the way")

It's clearly a "wag the dog" action. The only thing that surprised me was the timing, which I expected closer to the election. He will declare a national "emergency" (of his creation) and use it as an excuse to interfere in constitutional local control of elections...
I have become convinced ( perhaps it is my pessimistic nature) that there is a strong movement of Trump insiders and oligarchy wannabes to upend our system of government. They have built a private army through ICE and demonstrated a willingness to invade states that have demonstrated their opposition to Trump. It is clear that Congress has little control over where the administration spends funds or how much. I am unable to see into the process and next steps but I do not see any good news for the US economy and our standard of living into the future.

After the June strikes, the White House declared Iranian nuclear sites “obliterated,” a position it maintains. However, satellite imagery suggests Iran is already rebuilding the damaged sites, and Iran has announced steps to restore its nuclear program.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Secretary of State Mario Rubio reportedly spoke with seven of the eight members of Congress known as the "Gang of Eight" shortly before the U.S. and Israel conducted a military strike on Iran.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared the update on X shortly before noon Eastern on Saturday.

"Prior to the attacks, Secretary Rubio called all members of the gang of eight to provide congressional notification, and he was able to reach and brief seven of the eight members," Leavitt stated.

Rubio met with the group Tuesday for roughly an hour, with several Democrats apparently sharing publicly that they were unsettled by what they heard.

Who are the 'Gang of Eight'?

The following members of Congress make up the Gang of Eight, as of Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026.

  • Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-South Dakota
  • Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York
  • House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana
  • House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-New York
  • Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Arkansas
  • Sen. Mark Warner, D-Virginia
  • Rep. Rick Crawford, R-Arkansas
  • Rep. Jim Himes, D-Connecticut

Cotton serves as the chair and Warner the vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee. Crawford serves as the chair of the House Intelligence Committee, while Himes serves as the ranking member.

Unless they are getting them from the Russians and Chinese then they must have Ernst Starvo Blofeld and SPECTRE funding them because that is bad movie logic at its worst. If the administration maintains that they have obliterated their capabilities in the June strike then there is no way that they are close to being able to having credible weapons.

I am old enough to remember when Americans lost their collective intestinal contents over Jimmy Carter wearing a sweater and we now have a guy who looks like he escaped from a rural truck stop in Montana wearing a hat no doubt made in China and pretending this entire country endorses his feckless and reckless foreign policy. (Cue up the crappy Lee Greenwood song!)

Yeah I also remember how attacking Iraq and Afghanistan was going to bring peace to region…. Atleast Bush wasn’t a complete draft dodger using the military like the current president.

But you do need to know his opponent “went to Vietnam,” literally the only memorable thing Kerry ever said. About 600 times.
