Trump's Policies Part 4

Once again, we have the whining of people who think Trump is playing some sort of multi-dimensional chess. It's hilarious to watch these folks every single time:

'She's everything that's wrong with this country': Conservatives fume over Amy Coney Barrett siding with liberal justices — again

Uh....TRUMP appointed her, folks. TRUMP.

And if you're gonna go with "McConnell suckered Trump," well, that's not exactly a genius chess player now, is it?

It's the same thing with the so-called stolen election nonsense. I mean, that got cranked up again last week in Wisconsin. That to me begs the question of why Democrats are only able to "steal elections" when Trump is the one running the government.

It doesn't say much for his ability to keep anyone "safe," but here come the usual chirps of "fake news", "election interference" and the same rote cliches rooted in Jedi mind tricks that are part and parcel of the cult.

Judge issues preliminary injunction in favor of Associated Press in legal challenge against Trump Admin:

Judge Trevor McFadden, a Trump appointee, says “The court simply holds that under the First Amendment, if the Government opens its doors to some journalists—be it to the Oval Office, the East Room, or elsewhere—it cannot then shut those doors to other journalists because of their viewpoints. The Constitution requires no less."

"Defendants shall immediately rescind the denial of the AP’s access to the Oval Office, Air Force One, and other limited spaces based on the AP’s viewpoint when such spaces are made open to other members of the White House press pool."

Can't wait to see how Roberts overturns this one...

MAGA Maoism is spreading through the populist right
A new conservative strain dreams of sending the bourgeoise to work the factories.

On “Liberation Day” this past week, President Donald Trump announced a 10 percent universal tariff on all imported goods and far greater ones on individual countries. His administration framed it as a course correction to make America “competitive” again. But if you listened closely, especially to his supporters, this wasn’t just about trade. It was about work and the kinds of work that still count.

Recently, a viral meme in MAGA circles captured the moment, featuring a cartoon Trump addressing a faceless American: “Your great grandfather worked the mines, your grandfather worked in a steel plant, and you thought you could be a ‘product manager’ ???” It’s a joke, but it’s also a worldview — one where white-collar ambition is seen not as a step forward, but as a fall into decadence. The meme doesn’t just mock digital work; it exalts physical labor as the only authentic form of contribution.

What we’re seeing is a kind of MAGA Maoism, remixed for the algorithm age. Like the Chinese Cultural Revolution, it glorifies physical labor as moral purification, only now the purification is from the supposed “wokeness” of desk work, filtered through TikTok, X and Twitch. It’s not about creating jobs. It’s about creating vibes: strong men doing hard things, reshared until they become ideology. As one MAGA influencer put it, “Men in America don’t need therapy. Men in America need tariffs and DOGE. The fake email jobs will disappear.”

Trump, Hegseth promise record $1 trillion Pentagon budget
The surprise announcement comes as the Defense Department prepares to lay off tens of thousands of civilians.

President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth pledged a first ever $1 trillion defense budget proposal on Monday, a record sum for the military.

Trump, during a press event with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said the upcoming budget would be “in the vicinity” of $1 trillion.

Hegseth went further in an X post on Monday evening, saying Trump “is rebuilding our military — and FAST.”

“COMING SOON: the first TRILLION dollar @DeptofDefense budget,” Hegseth posted from his personal account. “(PS: we intend to spend every taxpayer dollar wisely — on lethality and readiness).”

The number would be a significant increase from the $892 billion funding Congress allocated for national defense programs this year, which includes the Pentagon, nuclear weapons development and security programs at other agencies. It also comes as the armed services seeks to cut 8 percent of their individual budgets and reinvest the money in modernization efforts.

Yeah, it's all about cutting spending. Still waiting on that serious DOGE audit of the Defense Department. In the meantime, average Americans should prepare for some "short-term" pain.

This strikes me as a reasonable compromise:
"Detainees 'must receive notice after the date of this order that they are subject to removal under the Act. The notice must be afforded within a reasonable time and in such a manner as will allow them to actually seek habeas relief in the proper venue before such removal occurs,' the majority wrote."

My guess is that a number of the members of Tren de Aragua have not registered their real addresses with ICE so Immigration will mail a letter to the best address they have (which will be returned to sender as undeliverable) and then, after a "reasonable time," the next time the individual is arrested in a jurisdiction that is not a "sanctuary city," the individual will be on the fast track to El Salvador.
This guy, who it seems is a lawyer, goes line by line (in the first 8 minutes and change) through the Per Curiam ruling.

“Chris Krebs… this is a man who weaponized his position against free speech in the election context… this instructs your department of justice.. to investigate..”

Trump: This guy is a wise guy. This is the most secure election the history of our country! No this was a disaster.

Every time Trump talks about the 2020 election, it reminds us all just how much of a liar he is. The guy is absolutely unable to admit that he lost.

And now he's siccing the Justice Department on government officials who confirmed that the election was valid. How can people defend/ignore this?

I death for years with a raging narcissist online, loved to tweak him by pointing out every single subject he tried to address was something I'd ACTUALLY done and that he.....well, didn't know what he was talking about (to put it charitably).

It took awhile but I finally figured it out and hit him with it: "You think because you refuse to ADMIT something happened that that means it never happened."

You will not be shocked to learn this is the guy who denies the moon landing (among other things).

THese guys can fly. They'll jump off the Emipre State building and say "see?" for 101 storeys. It's the concrete at the end of storey 102 that gets you.

Ponzie claimed until the end that he could have made everyone rich and his investors whole if only he hadn't been stopped. Delusional and magical thinking. Ignorance and superstition will always triumph over science and reason. Invest in iron lung manufacturers.

Supreme Court upholds order directing Trump officials to return wrongly deported man

Kilmar Abrego García, a Salvadoran immigrant who is married to a U.S. citizen, was deported to a mega-prison despite a court ruling forbidding his removal.

The Supreme Court on Thursday backed a lower-court order requiring the Trump administration to “facilitate” the release from custody of a Maryland man who was mistakenly deported to a mega-prison in El Salvador last month.

A District Court judge had ordered Kilmar Abrego García to be brought back to the United States by Monday night, but Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. issued a brief pause hours before the deadline, allowing the justices time to weigh a government motion to block the order.

In its brief order, the high court said the judge “properly requires the Government to 'facilitate’ Abrego Garcia’s release from custody in El Salvador and to ensure that his case is handled as it would have been had he not been improperly sent to El Salvador.”

The justices added that the Trump administration should be prepared to “share what it can concerning the steps it has taken and the prospect of further steps.”

There were no noted dissents.

The Voluntary Surrender of U.S. Power
Trump’s go-it-alone approach means abdicating the country’s global influence.

A tension has always existed between President Donald Trump’s push for American retrenchment and his desire to “Make America great again,” but the gulf has grown yawningly wide in the past three months. The United States is retreating from hard power, surrendering soft power, and yielding economic power. If this is what greatness looks like, what’s the alternative?
