I'm going to let Saban, Tua, Tua's parents and the medical team decide what is best for Tua. I imagine if the doctors green light him to go on the awards circuit, with his PT in tow, then that is appropriate. I think I remember hearing or reading that Jalen had a set back with some extra swelling and actually spent a night in the hospital because of that. Considering that all we have is the BASIC need-to-know details, whatever Tua does this week should be an indication of how severe the injury is.

I haven't been confrontational. Let's not make this personal.

The recovery from this procedure is based on the severity of the injury, not the procedure itself. When Jalen was injured, he couldn't walk. Tua was able to walk around in the 4th quarter and during the post-game celebrations. So it is clear that Tua's injury was not as severe. From that we can conclude that Tua's recovery time will be faster.

Jalen was able to play effectively in 4 weeks. That is my reasoning.
Or his pain threshold is higher, either of which increases his chances of playing.

Hell, he played half the year dinged up, I'm sure he won't miss this.

The kid is pretty resilient, and tough...........I'd be willing to bet he will be back and ready to show what he can do. Thankfully Bama has two QBs to do the job
This could be interpreted wrong, but I do worry about Tua's ability to play through pain. In no way am I making an indictment on his physical or mental toughness, but I do think that a player's ability to play with pain varies. Some players simply have a lower threshold of pain than others. It's not because they aren't tough, it's just their brains have a heightened sensitivity to what their nerves are indicating.

Playing through an injury is different, and clearly Tua was injured last night. However, there is going to be pain once that injury is corrected and the question is whether he can play with that pain effectively. So far this year, it would seem he hasn't been as effective.

I have heard others suggesting the same concerns. There is little question that even HOF QB's performance declines when they experience pain and mobility issues!

Yeah, you don't like to see anyone play through pain............it's hard to be effective when you are hurting, and takes your concentration away. I hope he recovers fully and is pain free. I don't know if there are any meds he can take that would help him with the pain, but I want him to play only when he is ready and the docs say have at it

If Dr. Waldrop is doing his surgery he is in good hands! He did my surgery on my broken ankle. Mine was way more complicated then what is going on with Tua but he is in the best hands possible. I cannot praise Dr. Waldrop enough!

I am really sorry for Tua, but no way he's back in time for the CFP...at least with the mobility he will need.

We're all rooting for Jalen now...
Padre, I'm sorry, but I can't go with this either. I don't think we even know, there are so many variations and degrees of this particular injury. Jalen is simply not a valid yardstick. In fact, if anything, it's an optimistic one given the degree of mobility each had after the injury. I watched my brother go through this injury, pre-modern medical techniques and it took him many, many months. The difference is that, in his case, the damaged ligaments, which don't have a super blood supply, had to reconnect and heal on their own. In the QBs' case, the operation takes the tension off the damaged ligaments, so they are not under strain and can heal quickly. Also, the stem cell techniques they have now speed healing and they have more ways to damp down inflammation. I don't think it's fair, from what little we know, just to summarily rule out his participation in the FBP...

Maybe I should have chosen him for my hip replacement, rather than the GA Tech team doc... (J/K) :D

Best of wishes to Tua and prayers for his recovery.

Hopefully he’ll be ready, but we can win it all with Jalen too.

Roll Tide Roll!

I think I read somewhere that said he had it this morning.
When Saban spoke, which was at about 1:30 this afternoon, he did not talk as if the surgery had already been performed, but as if it was going to happen. I could be reading too much into that.

I hope he's ready to go because Oklahoma will score and we need our offense to be flawless in this game. Georgia really got after us.

According to the SECN, Saban said that they plan to monitor Tua's recovery and scope the ankle if it is necessary. So it is possible that he may not need surgery.

If that's true then huge. Hopefully he can rest up and get recharged over the next few weeks. We'll need him.

To be fair, I think we need to take anything he says with a grain of salt. It’s clear he hasn’t been completely forthright with regard to Tua’s injury status all year.

If you take Saban's statements with a grain of salt then I suggest you take the so-called facts on ESPN and other sporting news "echo chambers" with a 2 lb box of salt. Nowadays reporters go with rumors and nameless "inside sources", not verified and fact-checked analysis.
