Anyone hear Tubbs this morning?

First, who is recording games in Tape anymore? There are so many reasons this doesn't make sense. Doe he still have one of those twist knob TV's too?

He didn't see much of the Auburn LSU game but could comment on his spread offense from last year.

So we basically have a fired coach that gets radio time to convince his case from last year, all year. I would think the so called "Auburn Man" would watch all of the rivalry games; Bama, LSU, Georgia.

WJOX's is using him like a young Dye or Stallings, a statesman of sort, but If he didn't watch the game, and from his aloof personality, I don't believe he will ever remain part of the Auburn family. He will drift away like a Bill Curry and harbor resentment the rest of his life.

Sorry for the rant, I just thought someone might have some insight on to why he still around? I can't see myself posting about him again, but was curios.

He's around because he has a big house on the lake down there and $6mil of hush money in the bank. I wouldn't go anywhere either. These side gigs are part of his punishment...he's required to break down the tiggers games...with a gleam in his eye. ;)

I seem to remember Coach Saban making some sort of statement last year during recruiting that they request tape from coaches because it's easier to stop, rewind, or do whatever. Technology has caused stoppages in video to be somewhat choppy so I can see how it would be useful.

I doubt the big coaches are using outdated analog equipment anymore but maybe some do. Many have a laptop connected to a large screen LCD television, and the technician uses software with mega controls that do what you mentioned
but at a fraction of the time. He can also have a whole season worth of opponent games in a folder on the desktop.

Maybe Tubbervile just misspoke there, but it sounded fishy that he missed most of the Auburn game, but watched others on "Tape" :)

Anyway, I have missed taking jabs at Tubby anyway.

If Tubs was ever allowing himself to become part of the "Auburn family" (which I would doubt), it all ended back in 2003. When Jetgate went public, Tubby played it perfectly and parlayed it all into one of the most ridiculous buyouts in the history of modern football contracts. From that point on, Tubby and the powers at Auburn were forced to "play nice" in the public eye. Neither side ever liked one another (much less trusted one another) from that point on.

Now that Tubby has cashed in his chips, there is no love lost between him and those that run the Auburn program. His only allegiance might be to the Auburn fans who stood by him, but very few of those folks will step forward now that they realize Tubbs was letting the program fly off course on auto-pilot for his last 3 or 4 years.

The phrase "Auburn family" just makes me cringe. I've known way too many of the goobers that consider themselves part of that "family," and, well...yuck. I get images of a bunch of delusional wackjobs wearing ugly blue and orange tracksuits sitting in a circle and singing Kumbaya while Mark Green pours them all some Jim Jones Kool-Aid. ::shudder::

He could have been saying that out of habit. Most coaches do say, "They look good on tape." Not "They look good on the film we have on them that we have on our computer." I'm not trying to be mean or anything. Just a possibility I see.

Bingo! Tubby has been coaching a long time and when he started it was tape. He just said it out of habit I'm sure. How many here say coke when they really mean soda? Who says kleenex when they mean to say tissue? I'm no Tubby fan, but it was just a misuse of the term.

I can't imagine why anyone would use tape over digital media for this type of video analysis.

Tape requires a mechanical system for playback or positioning. Mechanical systems use more power and they produce vibration and friction which causes wear on the tape and heat damage. It's impossible to jump to a position on tape in a millisecond, but every position in a digital recording is accessible so quickly that a human can't discern the amount of time required to find it.

Digital media does not degrade with use as quickly as does a magnetic tape. On high quality storage devices, it may not degrade at all.

A caller asked him how it felt to have destroyed Auburn's football program or something pretty close to that.

LOL, "Tommy how does it feel to destroy a program and walk away with five and a half million dollars?"

Have to say, Tubs handled it with dignity. I actually really like the guy.

Even funnier later was a Bama fan calling in saying how he thinks Tubbs did a helluva job at Auburn because it's only so much you can do there.

You are correct!

Many on here, like myself when not too lazy, can download any game from the entire season from the SEC site, and analyze it until the head explodes.

Someone with some time on their hands could get to know every team like never before.

Firefox

Install this quick little add-on
Video Download Helper
Go to the games here
secdigitalnetwork.com
Start streaming any Bama game, or any SEC game for that mater, then
1. Right click your mouse somewhere on the page
2. select "Download Helper/media
3. click the file to download
4. .flv to .avi free software (XVid is a good one)

Then watch the games with any free player.
