My son had his picture taken with him many times. He was always so gracious, friendly and appreciative. I know he had some personal demons but he was a nice guy who deserved better from the NFL. RIP Snake - the only snake I have ever liked.

One of my saddest days. In my opinion, the greatest QB to ever wear a Bama uniform.
Also a brilliant NFL QB, who, if not for the immaculate reception, would have led the Raiders to, not one, but two Super Bowl titles..
The only Super Bowl winning Quarterback, who, once retired, hasn't been elected to the NFL Hall of Fame.
Probably because he got the DUI's. He should have taken steroids or had sex with under age women like Lawrence Taylor. He would have been fine then. What a joke.
I played BlackJack, sitting by Kenny, at the Isle of Capri in Biloxi, I guess ten years ago.
They had hired him as a spokesperson.
I said, "Hey man, I'm a Bama Grad, and I just want you know that you were the best Quarterback we ever had". He grinned from ear to ear, shook my hand, and, as nice as he could be said, "Thank you man, I really do appreciate that". We talked for about five minutes. Not about Bama, or Football. About how much he had lost his butt lol...
He actually had now lived in Gulfport, with his girlfriend, and my friend, Kim Ross Bush, for a number of years.
I'm just really devastated.
It's a tough call for me for my all time Bama player. I've always thought Musso, but this makes it a tough choice.
This is one of those things you just don't think can ever happen. But guess what? It does.
Roll Tide Roll to the Snake.
I'm gonna cry now.
sip
Thanks for sharing the story.

One of my favorite players, and I loved him as a commentator. I remember hearing a story long ago, I think when he was finishing up with the Saints. They ask an offensive lineman what it was like in the huddle with the new Qb instead of Stabler. He replied for one thing the huddle didn't smell like Jack Daniels.

So sad. I've never been one for autographs, but he is the only one I got. I cannot remember which game now, but it was during the Mike Shula years. My cousin and I were at the Bryant Museum and Eli Gold and Kenny Stabler show up. Stabler was autographing things for a throng of fans, and I happened to think of my dad and how Stabler was one of his favorites. I got him to autograph a hat that I had bought that day and gave it to my dad. Stabler was the best color commentary person I ever listened to. I hated it when they let him go.

RIP, Snake.

My dad, who is the same age as Stabler (actually, he's four weeks to the day OLDER than Snake) virtually NEVER comments on the passing of anyone on Facebook. This was the first time I've seen him do it, and this is what my 69-year old man wrote:

One of the most exciting College/AFL players to ever walk on the field. Screaming and yelling all over Alabama while he was there. And then, the AFL Oakland Raiders. During his years at Oakland, America was treated to exciting football on each Sunday afternoon with Kenny passing to Fred Biletnikoff. Lots of people hated the Raiders, I loved them. What a fun football player!

My favorite non-football memory is of him as a senior (I was a freshman) cruising the women's dorms in his sports car as Mr. Big Man on Campus. He was that. You cannot doubt that Kenny Stabler LOVED the University of Alabama and left us way too soon. RIP, Snake. You are missed.

I got an autograph from him in 2007. I'm a 49ers fan, but I know my dad was a huge fan of his play when he played in Oakland (my dad grew up across the bay from Oakland). I also ended up on the Tuscaloosa News front page with me getting that autograph that my parents ended up printing a picture of. I've heard nothing but good vibes about the Snake.
