Ty Simpson named starter

I think this is great for the team psyche moving forward. Plus the more reps as qb1 that Ty gets the better the chemistry becomes for all the starters on offense
100% agree that QB1 getting all those reps going forward is critical to helping get all the guys in sync and develop the chemistry they need. It's great to have this decision made for the team.

My guess is this was when they were going to make the decision all along. Now the named starter has three weeks of first team reps to get ready for Fla St. Smart decision by the staff.

Most of us ( me included) , have wanted Ty in there for two years. Now that the job is his, it’s gonna be real interesting to see if we were right. I think he has what it takes, in terms of mobility and arm. But his inability to get on the field last year during Milroe meltdowns does give me pause. ( I know..LANK LANK). Fingers optimistically crossed!!

It’s been a pleasant development that multiple players have expressed their view that Ty was “the guy”, i.,e., he has “won the team”. Also, a positive that he seems to be the clear winner and that he wants to be “the man”.

IMO, it gives more credibility to the staff since they didn’t wait until the last minute to name the starter, when most knew it would be Ty. IMO, DeBoer and Grubb look good. So, wise for multiple reasons.

Seems like momentum is building, except for the nagging minor injuries. But most fans are waiting to be shown since we’ve heard “this year” for 3 or 4 years. But it looks good at the moment.

I want to see Mack 2.0....with the ability to slide properly that is.....
Ty will be the most mobile and elusive QB we’ve had other than Bryce.

He is crazy slippery.

I’m sure he does slide better than Mac Jones…lol

The coaches said the other day that their minimum expectation for accuracy is 65% or higher and the entire QB room was over that.

Mac set an at the time NCAA record for Comp% in 2020 at 77.4%

That’s a high bar to clear but if Ty can clear 65% and keep turnovers down he’ll have a good year I think.

Mac’s recorded 40 time is faster than Ty’s [4.74 vs 4.81], but Ty is a far superior athlete to Mac. Mac’s 40 is the same as Mahomes and better than Tua’s [4.84], but he is an awkward athlete, relatively speaking. Ty seems like a bright kid but it’s highly unlikely that he has the same smarts as Mac, but he may have as high of a football IQ as Mac (I assume i can say that since both are the same ethnicity). He’s probably not as accurate (77.4% sounds like video game numbers). 68-72% should be doable and would provide a good base performance for the O. Let’s see what DeBoer/Grubb/Ty can do. It’s a very good group of receivers with the WRs, Cuevas & ?, JM & DH & ? Could become elite, but at the least should be very good.

Those 40 times are surprising.

I tried looking them up too and it seems Ty's are from 2020-2021.

But he looks way faster than Mac in Pads in a game.

I was watching his 2023-24 highlights earlier and he was making DB's and LB's look silly on runs.

There are plays where he's running away from all defenders and it's SEC competition.

I think as long as he plays within himself and the system and distributes to our playmakers he will have a great year.

His legs are a weapon though and when a play inevitably at some point breaks down and doesn't go as planned his mobility will get us out of that jam much like Bryce did at times.

I'm really looking forward to this Full Offense.

Just going to drop these here…

We have a small sample to go off of but I’ve always thought Ty throws a nice catchable ball.

He gives his guys a chance and puts it right on them in the hands/number area.

These highlights also show a good mix of his pocket mobility and scrambling to either buy time for a throw or take off and get the 1st down or more.

If anyone wonders why I’ve compared to him Bryce and Manziel wrt to escape acts watch that HS video.

I’m really excited to see his 1st start vs FSU and I think he’ll have a really good year throwing to RW, Germie, Horton, Brooks, Scott, Adams, and Cuevas etc etc.

Maybe a GREAT year!!

RTR!!!

It is tempting to ponder what the last two years might have been like had coach Saban made a different decision, but this is fruitless. Best not even to engage in that speculation.
I am just focusing on the future and hoping Ty knocks it out of the part and stuns the sports journalist class with his skill and good judgment.

DeBoer's interviews and press conferences are getting "better". Understandably, last season most of his interviews he seemed uncomfortable sometimes unsure, but now with a year under his belt and i'm sure his family now fully settled in, it seems he's locked in. I just hope we can trust a lot of the good reports coming out of camp. If we can, this might be a very, very good year for the Tide.

Seems pretty clear last year was neither his program or team (and that would've been the case for anyone). And now the program is much closer to being his, and this team is clearly his. That has to make a positive confidence difference in what he says and how he says it

I also think having Grubb back was a real confidence boost for him. Grubb's personality seems more Type A and aggressive than Sheridan's (last years OC). I'm hoping that is reflected in how the offense is called and executed.
