I get everyone knocking the coaches for the Jalen Milroe experiment. And this isn’t an attack, but I do believe the reason for the long leash was because of 2 staffs. Had Nick and Rees stayed a second year I believe Milroe may have been pulled at some point for Ty , like Jalen was pulled Tua . Milroe is that superb athlete that if the light comes on for him, he could be the best dual threat ever. The new staff thought they could turn the light on for him, Like Sark , then Rees before them.
We complain, but Jalen did get us within a play or two from playing in the National Championship game.
According to many prominent people… Jalen was strongly encouraged to declare for the draft by the staff. So the likelihood of him starting this year was slim to none. If Saban stayed another year…. IDK. Saban probably would’ve started him just based off how he got better and how he was the guy that the team liked, but as far as a leash… who really knows. Mostly because we don’t really know the quarterback group had he stayed.

Also the Hurts to Tua move is far more complicated than what many believe it to be. Saban was more forced to make that decision by his staff than actually coming up with the move by himself. Saban for a long time was spooked by the Henson-Brady game in which he was on the opposite side of the field of, and has always valued the experience and guy who doesn’t turn the ball over more than than the guy with the highest ceiling but was prone to more turnovers. In 2017 Saban was constantly at war with his offensive staff over who should be quarterback and it almost blew up in his face twice that year. The halftime of the national championship they forced him to make that decision.

Just going to drop these here…

We have a small sample to go off of but I’ve always thought Ty throws a nice catchable ball.

He gives his guys a chance and puts it right on them in the hands/number area.

These highlights also show a good mix of his pocket mobility and scrambling to either buy time for a throw or take off and get the 1st down or more.

If anyone wonders why I’ve compared to him Bryce and Manziel wrt to escape acts watch that HS video.

I’m really excited to see his 1st start vs FSU and I think he’ll have a really good year throwing to RW, Germie, Horton, Brooks, Scott, Adams, and Cuevas etc etc.

Maybe a GREAT year!!

RTR!!!
I'd say the narrative this season surrounding Ty will be one of two things.....
1. How did he not beat out our previous QB in 23 / 24
2. The growth he's had sitting behind our previous QB.

The narrative will never be that he should have been the QB in 23 and 24.

Well, if he excels, there will be plenty of "I told you so" posts, but I suppose you are correct that the "journey" is what got him there and made him better.

It's really pretty simple for Ty. Ball out and have a great year and next spring he could become an instant millionaire many times over.

If that happens, I don't think he'll regret what happened in 23 or 24.

@Cruloc is talking about the national narrative from casuals and pundits. Everyone on this board knows why Ty wasn’t starting.

Even if Milro didn't have such a bad year down the stretch, (which he did and it was awful). He just doesn't fit the offense they want to run.

They know that the record last year was not good enough to keep their jobs, especially including the Oklahoma loss (not just that we lost but how utterly humiliating of a loss it was). They know they have to turn this around and if they are going to go down they for sure would want to go down doing what they believe in, not what they were forced into.

Milro was a warrior and I truly believe he gave it his all every day. I hope that leads him to success in the NFL. But I also truly believe his mindset and skill set just didn't match up to the type of offense they wanted to run. Take Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes and drop them in the wrong offense and it wouldn't work.

I have little to no doubts Ty can run the offense and even be exceptional once he gets a little experience. My greatest fear is that he will let his desire to succeed push him on plays that he needs to just throw away and end up getting hurt. As much as I hate seeing a play go for nothing I've noticed the QB's that win rings all know when to give up on a play and move on to the next.
See Brady, Tom....

Well,... there was that "one little thing" about half way through the 3rd quarter of the Oklahoma game. . :sneaky:

If they don't know this, they won't be in Tuscaloosa very long. The record last season is unacceptable as the norm for Alabama football. But I think they know this and probably feel the pressure to turn it around this season. If they go 9-4 again, the seat will get very hot, he'll get a third year just because of the buyout in the contract, but that third year, the seat will be scorching hot.

Klubnik who was in Ty's class and rated virtually equal with Ty has a $3.1 Mil. NIL deal this year. It pains me how Ty's loyalty at Bama has been taken for granted.
Definitive NIL numbers are not easy to get. Most of the time it’s listed as an Est Value.

But right now Ty is listed at $300 K

Our QB3 is listed as $1.3 Mil

I hope our NIL group will bump him up to the highest paid QB

He’s going to be our Starter and is valued like a backup OL or something.

Among other pressures, he was facing extreme unrest in the receiver room. Guys were working their butts off, getting open and didn't have a chance to get the ball. JH was, in the meantime, regressing opening and obviously, not unlike Milroe last season. The last thing on earth CNS wanted to do was make that substitution at halftime in the championship game...

some of the same reasons I think Nick would have eventually pulled Milroe, but also throw in running backs room as well . 2023 and 2024 offenses with two different staffs went back to what Jalen does well and eventually became a predominantly single wing style QB run offense. A high School offense. I don’t think either staff would have fallen for that a full second season.
