I'm trying hard not to get too excited about a QB who hasn't started a game for us yet, and other than a half at USF in 23, hasn't really played with a game in doubt under live fire, but statements others have made in a couple of interviews this week are making that hard.

Zabien Brown on why they have not had many interceptions this fall:

"But the offense is being real smart by the ball. They know our defense and we're having a lot of good battles out there. It's a chess match, a mental game. They know us and we know them and it's back and forth out there."

Those battles are primarily against just-named Alabama starting quarterback Ty Simpson.

"Ty is a great dude, a guy you want to play hard for," Brown said. "He's a great leader. I'm blessed to have him as my quarterback.

"He is super-smart on the field, so we have to watch them watch us and make sure our disguises are right, moving in and out of coverages.

"Ty is a pro-style quarterback. He reads the entire defense. If we show our coverage too early, lose our disguise, he's making his alerts. Having a guy like that really helps us out
."

From AL.com from Brown
“Ty, he’s a leader of men,” cornerback Zabien Brown said. “I’m extremely glad that’s my quarterback, he’s the type of guy, he’s a guy’s guy. Makes me want to play harder for him.”

and Kane Wommack:

" I mean, you know, as a defensive coordinator your job is to kind of be an expert on offenses and what we're doing and how they're attacking us. Ty just does such a great job of his command of the offense right now. He understands what Ryan and what Nick are trying to get done out of the quarterback position and what we're trying to do offensively. He gets us into the right calls. He keeps us out bad calls for the most part and then does a really nice job of taking care of the football, and the dude makes plays. So take care of the football, make good decisions, make plays when it matters, that's to me that's the elements of a quarterback. When I watch him go through progressions he has a great feel for boom, boom, boom and he stays on schedule and that's always going to make you efficient offensively. "

Fingers crossed we see all that translate from practice field to game field!

I read yesterday where Ty was talking to his OL before and after plays.

Not as in ‘getting in their ear’ for anything bad but just helping them understand what the Defense is doing and getting the Line calls right.

We have a real QB again and it’s very difficult to not get excited about it.

Fwiw Vegas has our QB1 with the 5th best Heisman odds now.

They get stuff wrong too but man… lots of good word of mouth is going on right now.

But he’s the 36th best QB in the country…

I think the Golding experiment lasted as long as it did for the same reasons Kevin Steele was hired. Coach said it himself, young coaches didn’t want to work for him anymore, they were afraid of the gruff exterior and the chance Nick would retire soon after they accepted , leaving them in Limbo.
Yes but when something is broken and it’s the defense that you run and built then you have to see that there has to be some change somewhere. Saban was running off perspective young coaches but not all of them. The coaching staff we have currently is the best coaching staff that Alabama has had since 2017.

Frankly, this is thrilling. Seems like Grubb is making a tremendous difference in multiple ways. He and DeBoer are naturally very aggressive. But mostly Ty has taken everything to heart, with the result being that all of his natural ability is being unleashed, coupled with the restraint that minimizes the recklessness that often comes with a natural gunslinger. It’s hard to suppress the excitement. This, along with an elite WR room - at least a very good one.

Even McElroy is having trouble containing his excitement. Said, they were extremely disciplined with very few mistakes as they lined up and employed all of their motions and shifts. Again, Grubb and Ty running the show.

And has anyone seen Miller’s arms? Reports are that many others have made similar gains. Just listen to the interview with Ballou that was posted earlier.

Looks like someone who will be trucking some LBs and DBs and serious about blocking any edge rushers.

Top to bottom probably correct but man it’s going to be hard to beat a staff with both Saban and Sarkisian on the sidelines. Golding obviously was the weak link that year.

From what I've seen, Ty comes across as being very humble and a "team player." I'm also encouraged by his comments about distributing the ball to the playmakers. Hopefully that results in unselfish decisions and no "hero ball" from our QB.

Reading defenses, helping the OL with line calls........amazing.

We had a 2nd scrimmage today and Ty continues to receive praise from CKD...

“Specifically for Ty, I thought he came out and executed the offense,” DeBoer said. “Just continues to be steady. Finds his times to make the plays, and today, he actually used his feet again.”

DeBoer believes this aspect of Simpson’s game will catch defenses off guard during the season.
“I think that’s something that people will probably underestimate as we go through the year, just what his ability to make plays and keep plays alive,” DeBoer said.

Simpson uses the second scrimmage to show his consistency with a high completion percentage.

“I thought he was steady,” DeBoer told reporters. “He was consistent, probably a higher completion percentage than what he had last scrimmage, maybe not quite as many explosives. I think that’s a tribute to our defense and what they did as well, so good both scrimmages for him and to continues to make the progress.”

Like I've been saying for years now his mobility and elusiveness is going to be a major asset and is going to surprise a lot of people.

Early pressure from front seven's will not immediately kill plays anymore.

We haven’t heard this level of support for a QB, from the players, in several years.

Incredibly refreshing.

I think he’s especially won over the Offensive players.

He’s coaching up others and helping them and also distributing the ball to everyone and including the TEs.

I think all our players will be involved and feel involved and that always creates positive chemistry too.

I can’t wait the play FSU.

Imagine you are a 4 or 5 star wide receiver and you agree to play at the greatest blue blood of them all but you hit the unlucky lottery of having a QB who can't even get the correct read of the "run" part of the RPO, much less see the field well enough to spot you running (at times) wide open but to no avail?

That happened to our receivers the last two years!!!

The only two things I worry about is our running backs and our offensive line. Yes they look the part but against other people can they play the part. Right now it’s anyone’s guess.
My main worry is the Kicking.

Both the PK and Punting was said to be especially shaky today.

OL will for sure be a question mark though until we see how they do against opponents.

If they gel and play well though I'm sure the RBs will follow suit.
