I can't speak for the rest of the state, or for the rest of you guys for that matter, but as for me in Mobile, every non-Bama fan I have seen since the game has had one universal comment (and I paraphrase): "Good win, but Shula proves he is a bad coach by leaving Prothro in. What was he thinking?"

Frankly I am sick of it. Yeah no one wanted to see Pro go down. But overall, when respect is due, give it.

Shula out coached Myers, and the rest of the SEC just cant come to terms with it. They want to hang on to the the most tragic moment in the game for Alabama as their "proof" that CMS is a bad coach.

Pitiful.

No doubt in my mind that

Prothro should have been in the game! all week some asked "Why can't Shula go for the kill?" well HE WAS GOING FOR THE KILL! Pro could have got hurt on the first play of the game, football is not a contact sport it is a collision sport. I saw a previous post linked to a Gator board where one gator said something to the fact he was glad Pro got hurt while Shula was trying to "run it up" I don't remember the gators being to disappointed when Spurrier was hanging 60-70 on some overmatched teams. I don't care what people say we took a huge step in "Being Back" today.

Wonder if those folks are saying that about Tommy T? I see Cox is still in the game with the barn up 41-0.

Why is it that whenever one of our players get hurt the blame automatically goes to the coaching? Shula is not to blame here. Any other time TP makes the catch, lands on both feet and everyone screams. Just this once TP caught a bad chance of luck. We all feel sorry that it happened and we will all be saying a prayer for him. But for crying out loud dont blame Shula. Ask yourselves, would this topic even be brought up if he wouldnt of gotten hurt...I seriously doubt it. The topic would instead read something about another great catch by TP...So people be happy with the win and keep TP in your prayers...RTR

Awesome point.

But mark my words, tomorrow morning the state's press will be mimicing the rest of these anti-Alabama yahoos with a major focus on Shula's "mistake". It really make me sick and has really taken some of the luster off the game for me. When you deserve repect you should get it. Oh well, we have always had a target on our back. It some ways it nice to have it being shot at again....it means your the the hunted and not the hunter.

We are 5-0. After every game there have complaints about something. If TP hadn't gotten hurt, it would have been the backups should have been getting the reps. And if the backups had fumbled or let the Gators score it would have been they shouldn't have been in the game. Hey, you can't please everyone!

Give it a REST...

Hey Mobile, give it a rest. We were playing a top 5 team and a potential high scoring "o". I have not agreed with everything CMS had done, BUT you can't blame him for the injury... We are 5-0, just enjoy.

Prothro :

Other teams would have done the same to us.
CMS was trying to run the clock down and not throw the game like LSU did last Monday. We kept the ball on the ground mostly and passed when trying to pick up the first down.
Also you have to look at how the BCS ranks teams. The score has a lot to do with it. If you beat a top 5 team by 28 points, it sure looks good in those corrupt computer the BCS uses to keep nondeserving teams ranked as high as they are.
If it had been Florida winning this game, they would have kept their 1st string team in as well.
You can't blame anybody, especially Coach Shula, for our injuries today. I think if CMS knew this was gonna happen he would have pulled Prothro out of the game after his first TD.

I just talked to a friend of mine in Knoxville and he kind of gloated when I told him that Prothro was injured. Some other Vol fans set him straight quickly.
I can't wait to watch TN choke and scramble to figure out which quarterback will do the worst job during the game against us.
You know Fulmer would try to run the score on us. Although that will not happen this year! They look weak.

I think the team did and excellent job today. Prothro's injury was unfortunate and will be hard to get over. But, Alabama is a team not an individual. They will pull through. 'Cause the TIDE is rollin' baby! There ain't nothin' stoppin us now!

I agree. It also saddens me to see/hear the same jargan from tide fans. We have a good coach. It is time to stand behind him.

Even Lou Holtz said Shula did the right thing

Freak accident to have a reciever go down like that.

Gotta admit, though, it really brought me down a bit when he got hurt. He seems like a great young man, and I hate to see him miss the rest of the year.

Now we'll see who steps up.

Give me a break, NO Body can be blamed for this injury! Its just one of those things that happen! Do people think Shula wants his players to get hurt? I am sure he felt very bad for Prothro, he seems to really care for his players unlike some other coaches we have had!

God Bless Prothro! Not only is he a great althete he has great passion for Bama football!

Hey Freakazoid, how about learning to read, I am not bashing Shula, only reporting and COMPLAINING about those that are, like this jerk from CBSsportsline:

"Give Meyer all the raspberries you want, but don't send Shula roses just yet. He may have outcoached Meyer, but he was coaching with half his brain -- and none of his ego -- behind his back.

Shula unnecessarily had his most dangerous offensive weapon, Prothro, on the field midway through the fourth quarter with the score already 31-3. Result? A gruesome-looking broken leg. It happened with nine minutes left and the Crimson Tide facing fourth-and-five on the Florida 27-yard line. After leaping for a pass into the end zone, Prothro landed awkwardly, breaking two bones. He's done for the season.

Ugly as it was, here's something uglier about Prothro's injury: It might have happened because Shula was seeking retribution for something Meyer had said. Asked this week why he had pulled his starters so early in the second half last week against Kentucky, Meyer cited a needless season-ending injury suffered late in the third quarter of an SEC blowout last season -- Alabama's 52-0 rout of Western Carolina in Week 3, when Croyle suffered a torn ACL.

Asked earlier this week how he felt about Florida's coach bringing up Croyle's injury, Shula brusquely declined to discuss it. Heaven forbid he should admit his mistake of a year ago. But is it too much to ask that he actually learn from it?"

This is exactly the kind of comment I was orginally talking about. Please read carefully before you comment next time.

Obviously everyone thinks we should just take out the entire 1st string offense with 15:00 left in the 4th quarter for every game. Prothro isnt even a player that has had injury problems. There was no reason to take him out of the game at that time. This is a great victory for us and it will not be tainted by haters.

It's not CMS's fault, but it's 4th and 5 with around 8 minutes left in the game (if I remember correctly) and a 28-point lead. Punt the friggin' ball and do what you do best, play defense.

Flame away.

Lou Holtz said it best, Shula was absolutely correct in having Prothro in the game. Alabama was playing a top five team and you want to make a statement.

Where does the coaching questioning stop? Unless we had 100% second string in, how does some jackass say why did they have so-in-so in the game? We have talented players in on every series. What if that was Brown, Hall, Caddell...? Will these doorknobs be content if it was a walk-on that we don't really know?
I agree with 7Tech. We were going for the kill shot, as Shula has not truly done in the past. Had the Gators made a comeback/victory, Shula would be fired in the media's eyes tonight. Shula HAD TO win this game after the first half performance. Big games sometimes have unfortunate consequences, as the Gators lost 2 big players against the vols 2 weeks ago. I absolutely hate it for Prothro, he was/is the heart and soul of the team. But I have a feeling our guys will step it up for him.
