U$C vs NCAA News (MERGED THREADS)

Re: U$C News

The one thing that bothers me, personally, in this article is this:

"The school could face other sanctions if it’s proven that coaches knew or should have known about the alleged benefits."

Should have known? That label could and has been pasted on coaching staff's before. It's pretty unfair, really.

Re: U$C News

The Times also quoted an unidentified source familiar with the situation that NCAA officials tried to include USC in the meeting with Lake, but the school declined to participate.

It's kept them out of the fire so far. Why work with them now.

Re: U$C News

What has it been a year or more and they finally want to talk to someone? they will drag this out till the statute of limitations runs out then you will never hear another word.

What is the statute of limitations in cases like this?????

If some of the stories are true about these guys being on the sidelines/in the locker room at USC games, then yes, "should have known" might fit. It kinda goes in line with, "Hey, my starting tail back is driving a Ferrari, I wonder where he got that? Oh well, back to coaching..."

Re: U$C News

This sounds like a possible "Rouge Booster".

Those are bad when combined with a "should have known".

I think we all are jumping the gun here. NCAA will show that it was an accidental "Rogue Booster" and an inadvertent "should have known." No harm, no Foul. They will pick up the flag and move on to the next SEC team.

USC and the NCAA

Maybe it's finally come to the surface. A news story this morning states a man by the name of Lloyd Lake is meeting with the NCAA to produce financial records of his payments to Reggie Bush, providing a house for his parents, and money for them as well. Think anything will come of it? Will the ncaazis be forced to do something? What do you think?

Absolutely I think something will come of this: Bama will lose 10 schollies and have 4 yrs probation.

Re: U$C News

"Knew or should have known" is a pretty standard legal concept, basically meaning that maintaining a willful ignorance about a situation is pretty much equivalent to knowing and not doing anything about it.

For example, even if you are one of the 12 people in the world who believes Richard Scrushy knew nothing about what was going on in his accounting department, can you really argue with a straight face that, as the CEO of that company, he should not have known? Surely he had a duty to keep himself reasonably informed about what was going on in his company, except in the Circuit Court of Jefferson County, Alabama.

The tailback/Ferrari example is a good one as well. A little closer to home, I would argue that Coach Stallings/Hootie Ingram had a duty to do a little investigating into the whole Langham thing instead of just taking him at his word that nothing happened. How might things be different today had either of those folks done any more investigating?

Re: U$C News

This Lake guy is a convicted felon that has also filed a lawsuit against Bush. Maybe it's just me, but I find this to be very fishy. Even the NFL security told Bush that this dude is trying attempt an extortion on him. I would more believe someone with a good, proven record of being a sports marketer. This guy just entered into the business with dreams of making Bush his premier client and it didn't happen because the Bush's picked someone else.

Frankly, I'm tired of hearing about this. It's been over a year and the NCAA hasn't done anything. I don't know exactly how long the NCAA investigated Alabama for whatever illegal activities we got put on probation for, but I doubt it was over a year and absolutely nothing had come out of it.

Re: U$C News

I'll be shocked if the NCAA does anything to U$C. They are a media darling just like ND. Now if this were an SEC team, other than UT, it would be a different story.
