UA, NCAA meet about textbook scandal
A contingent from the University of Alabama, including Director of Athletics Mal Moore and Compliance Director Chris King, met with National Collegiate Athletic Association officials Wednesday in Indianapolis to update them on the status of the school’s investigation into textbook disbursement.

The school did not file a report with the governing body, and all indications are that five football players .— junior center Antoine Caldwell, sophomore running back Glen Coffee, junior guard Marlon Davis, and sophomore defensive backs Marquis Johnson and Carlos Rogers — will not play Saturday’s game against No. 3 LSU.

This whole situation has made me wonder about how other schools address this. Like, at Auburn, when they are given textbooks, are the crayons with the books or is that not part of their scholarship? I'm guessing its covered.

I think the twelve pack is covered. If they get the 64 pack with the sharpener in the back for free, that is a violation.

Heck, some of the barners are so dumb that they can't handle coloring books so they get credit for Soc. classes they never attend,or turn in colored pictures for.

I hate the NCAA, they try to make it so hard. If they come down hard on us for this little matter, where we've already suspended our players for the biggest game of the year so far, then they'd better end the Southern Cal program.

I think the NCAA is truly the government that runs the country, they're too powerful, and are evil. I realized they were evil when they didn't let those guys rejoin the NCAA after their WINNING lawsuit to be able to join the NFL after 2 years was taken back by an appellate judge.

Why dont we just ignore them and make ourselves not available for questioning like usc is doing in the bush case????
Get your facts straight first of all. It is Bush himself that isn't cooperating, not USC. The NCAA has been investigating at USC for over a year now and still nothing has come out. Maybe there's a slight possibility that USC possibly didn't do anything wrong. I'm not saying that they didn't do anything wrong; but we don't know anymore than the media knows and they do not know more than the NCAA and/or USC knows about what happened in the Reggie Bush case.

I just looked over on the aub board (ITAT) and it is in total meltdown. Nearly every other post is about UA getting slammed by the NCAA again. It is really sad to see the barners get soooo worked up over this stuff. I hope this mess will be settled soon...the longer it drags on, the more these stupid rumors will spread on rival boards.

Coach Saban had a couple of things to say about this tonight during his weekly radio show.
He said the investigation started from another sport and that 4 or 5 football players have been implicated (yes I know it is 5 but him saying 4 or 5 might mean something). He said the penalty goes from one game suspension to four (no in-between) depending on the dollar value.

He said the compliance staff had done a remarkable job in a short time and is wrapping up the report to the NCAA. Inferring that the NCAA will make a determination tomorrow.

Losing 5 players from the biggest game of the year can't be good. But I'd rather the compliance staff get the information correct and take the proper corrective measures before the game than wait until after the game and the program suffer because of it.
I think for the players responsible, their season is done. Hopefully they can get past this and play next year.

I'm highly doubting any of the players involved seasons will be done, it's a shame it had to come at this time. I have a question though since they have already missed one game does that count?

I was hoping the last game would count. If not me highly doubting anything doesn't mean jack does it lol. Other than a bowl game they would be done :aiwebs_003:. This season went entirely to fast.
