So, since they were out for LSU, I'm assuming the 4-game suspension is in place? They should be back for the Auburn game, correct?

Thanks.

The NCAA is like the IRS, there are so many nick picky rules that they can lower the boom on just about anyone if they decide to audit. Right now I don't really believe the NCAA wants to lower the boom on Alabama, so nothing will become of this other than the suspensions.

Joe Paterno has always been very vocal about his dislike of the NCAA. He has said that the "whole thing should be scrapped. Then we can sit down, start over and determine what is and what is not a violation and present it in a clear and simple format that everyone can understand." (paraphrase) I agree with him.

cost us the game....
I disagree. While it would have been good to have the extra depth, especially at RB, LSU's superior talent level won out. While I didn't like the end result, i have to admit it was a pleasure to see a player like Glenn Dorsey, #72, just play at such a high level and enjoy the game.

From Cecil Hurt's column....

The internal UA audit into the textbook distribution problems that has put those players on the sidelines is over, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that reinstatement for the five football players is imminent.
MASH HERE

So, does anyone know what out timetable is to get the information to the NCAA? What their timetable is to respond?

Their timetable is their own. It's still hoped that they will be back for the AU game, but it's far from a certainty. That is the reason CNS has refused to comment on it...

Here is a quote from Mike Dubberly's (Fox 6 News in B'ham) blog from 11/02/07. I would think it may have some validity, and I apologize in advance if it has been posted earlier because I do not have time to read every post in this thread.

Quote: "As I reported last Monday night at 6:00 on Fox6, a couple of sources shed some light on what happened in the UA textbook situation that led to 5-Alabama football players being suspended.

Basically, this all started with women's track. A few female athletes have boyfriends who are non-athletes. Their boyfriends had difficulty paying for textbooks. So, they worked out a scheme to help out their boyfriends. It involved a couple of student employees at the Ferguson Center who on the female track athlete's book allowances to get textbooks that their boyfriends needed. The female track athletes asked for the cooperation of 5 football players, Antoine Caldwell, Marlon Davis, Glenn Coffee, Chris Rogers and Marquis Johnson to utilize their book allowances as well to help the girl's boyfriends. Unfortuntately they did cooperate and are now suspended. From what I am told, the football players got no personal gain in any of this but what they did was, of course, wrong. On Wednesday, a contingent from the University of Alabama met with the NCAA to report their own findings.
Right now, it looks like a two to four game suspension. If the NCAA approves the report, they (the NCAA) can shorten the suspensions. It's my understanding that If the amount per player was $100 or less, they are immediately reinstated as son as they pay the money to the university. If it's more, we have to work with the NCAA to determine appropriate penalties. Unlike Ball State, which had a similar situation but was much more widespread, there is nothing to suggest a Bama cover-up or lack of institutional control."

If that is indeed the case, we should only get about 12 years probation and 35 scholly losses if the NCAA follows it's normal routine of "judge, jury, and executioner" in dealing with us.
